Mr. Castro:

This is kind of hard to do, but my name is Mark Becker, and last year I attacked you and your wife (and the whole board) using the name "Bandwidth Eater." I can't say why I did this, other than I thought it was funny to get a rise out of people. I realize now that the things I said were hurtful and I want to apologize to you and your wife. The "Bandwidth Eater" started out as a joke on the Asimov's board, but soon sprialled out of control. I wanted each new post to top the last and found myself making some incredibly racist and misogynist posts that I am ashamed of.

I know ths probably doesn't make you hate me less, but I'm sorry if I caused you (or anyone else on the board) any distress.

Mr. Becker:

If you were indeed "Bandwidth Eater," I respect the apology and believe that offering it is a gesture that speaks well of you.

I didn't 'hate' you, by the way. You were an irritation, but I reserve that particular term for people who inflict actual damage. And yes, there have been a few of those.

I can only urge you not to end the gesture here, but instead to publicly offer the same apology in every forum where your posts appeared. (Just checking: I don't think you've followed up on the F & SF board yet.) It may be difficult, but I assure you that the closure will work both ways.
