Michigan State University, facing sever budget pressures, recently announced that it would no longer be able to fund Clarion. (This is the Clarion sometimes known as Clarion East.) The Director of Clarion, Dr. Lister Matheson, sent out a request that anyone who has thoughts about this matter should send email to the university expressing their opinions. That was late last week. A number, in fact, a rather large number of emails did arrive. The vast majority were in support of the program and asked the university to reconsider.
This week, Dr. Matheson reports that the university is, in his words, "rattled" by the amount of email it has received in support of Clarion and he requests more emails. Those emails should be addressed to MSU's Interim President and Provost, Dr. Lou Anna K. Simon at firstname.lastname@example.org, and the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, Dr. Wendy K. Wilkins at email@example.com. Please copy any messages to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'm teaching Clarion this week and pass this on from Michigan.
