"We" are a a new magazine called A Novel Way. We can be found at www.anovelway.com. We're looking for submissions in the following areas:
1. Short stories under 1,000 words
2. Short stories any length
3. Full-length novels that will be published in a serialized format.
We are actively seeking stories in all genres, but would LOVE some good old sci-fi, horror and mysteries. The only thing we will not consider is pornography.
To give you the skinny, we're a free monthly publication that will be distributed throughout the NYC area. In exchange for your story, we'll give you $60 in free advertising that you can use to shamelessly promote yourself. Now I've read through the posts and see that a "nominal" payment was ripped apart as hardly being paid. So I'm sure this "exchange" theorem will likely encounter some obstinance. The thing is, IF you're self-published or WANTING to be published, there's no right way to go about things. Yes, there are absolutely things you shouldn't do (like finding out a publisher's home address and having pizzas delivered that the publisher has to pay for), but creating a name for yourself in the writing world is just as creative as writing that novel you're all working on. Therefore, to get your name out there to a major market should not be sneezed at as it's up to you to use it to your advantage. And NYC IS a major market. I hope there's no argument there.
We already have several writers that are going to use being accepted as a toe-in-the-door approach to getting published. I should add that we only have you sign a one-time printing agreement (and the option of an electronic rights agreement). This means you can shop your writing around WHILE it's appearing in print. We don't care. We want you to succeed. We're about writers helping writers.
We'd love to see what you've got. And if you're just starting out, it's a wonderful way to get your name out there to targeted group that actually buys books.
We figure we'll leave it up to each individual writer to see if this works for you.
Any questions you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for your time.
