Seriously, this is a wonderful collection of 'islands' here, and your descriptions are great. And I especially like its non-ness.

Well, I figured a continent would get too complex, with all that historical baggage, and infestations of civiliations, etc. ;-)
An island is simple and solitary enough to be one individual.

Is anybody familiar with Richard Thymes "Islands in the Clickstream?"
He's sort of a futurist/philosipher, without all the punk/hipster baggage that comes from the wired/boing boing set.
I know this has nothing to do with your post... The name just dinged an association in my head.
