Hi gang
Happy October. Cor, only a month to go for CAS5 and a warm glow of expectation is stealing over me. Magic.

Scott Connors announced on Facebook on September 24: "'The Last Hieroglyph,' volume 5 of The Collected Fantasies of Clark Ashton Smith, is now at the printers and is on-track for a release in early December. Reviewers should contact Night Shade Books for an advance reading copy."

Hi Ningauble
Early December? Damn.
Pre-Christmas? Probably not.
2010? Well, slap my turkey and call me Susan.

*shrugs* Well, _I_ am in no rush -- I already read it twice during proofing... :-)

Don't know. I got the gig because one of the editors knows me as a) a CAS fan and b) an obsessive-compulsive proof reader.
(I proofed the Barnes & Noble collection H. P. LOVECRAFT: THE FICTION -- all 1100 pages of it -- but unfortunately only AFTER it was published. That book is probably the most misprinted book in the entire history of Lovecraftian publishing.)

Hi gang
Happy November. How was Hallowe'en? Smith 5 must be nigh cooked by now - best get him out of the oven. Really looking forward to this one. A word or two regarding progress would sure be appreciated by all Smith fans - are we on the home straight at last? Hugs and kissy things all round.

Scott Connors mentioned on Facebook and in the Eldritch Dark forum that he has got his copies -- the book has a physical existence! :-) We'll have to hope that it can ship quickly.

And I quote what Scott just said on the Eldritch Dark forum:

"And the reason why TII hasn't shipped is because NSB is negotiating with the CAS Estate to expand it and to print enough copies to satisfy the demand. Oh--and it will now be hardcover, so subscribers will now receive at no charge a 6th HC uniform with the other five, rather than a trade paperback. Oh, and everyone who couldn't get on board in time can now get one without hitting up Ron or me. (I imagine that some subscriber will not complain that this isn't as 'collectible' as an ultra-limited subscriber's premium: well, Ron and I live close enough to SF that we've offered to drive down and autograph all subscriber copies. Still, some people would complain if they were being hanged with a new rope.)"

And I quote what I just said on the Eldritch Dark forum:
Yes, some people WOULD complain if they were being hanged with a new rope, especially the innocent. ("Stop complaining, arsehole, we don't care if you did it or not. Look at this lovely new rope.") What a load of crap. Scott Connors says I owe NSB an apology - bollocks. They owe me, and hundreds of customers like me. We haven't forgotten the Perdito Street Station fiasco, with NSB making endless promises of how magnificent it was going to be until it eventually vanished up its own sphinctre. Last August NSB said that TII was complete and ready to ship with CAS5 - now it's described as being still in a state of negotiation. Lies, or plain incompetence?

It's now more than three months since Scott Connor received his copies of Miscellaneous Fiction of CAS, and more than two months since the scheduled release date (Amazon began delivering in November). Meanwhile the suckers who paid in advance, thereby financing this project, still wait, and wait, and wait. Why don't you stop taking the piss out of us saps and get this pathetic farce over with?
