I just finished reading a phenomenal story, "Awake in the Night" by John C. Wright. I'm sure the Hodgson freaks here have already encountered this; it took a recommendation from an old friend to send me to Dozois's 21st year's best collection. I didn't think it possible that anyone could take up "The Night Land" and deepen it...the areas where he extended Hodgson's vision, rather than writing mere pastiche or an updated riff, are impressive.

I have to agree. That was a brilliant, brilliant story. Also, loved the fluted girl...

Wright wrote another long 'Night Land' story, which you can find over on Andy Robertson's Night Land website. He has about 50,000 wds of story. I think it would be cool if someone got him to write another story or two, and then publish it all as a collection.

Wow. I will trek over there and check it out. Seal the gates behind me as I leave.
