Hey all, I know there are a number of you on this board from the Austin area. I have a friend who's moving there in early July from Germany. He seems fairly familiar with the area, but I wanted to know if anybody had some suggestions as to what to do in Austin. Even simple things, like where to buy groceries, rent videos, get books, go bike riding, etc. Anything would be helpful.

Austin is a great... well except he'll melt when he gets here. If he's lucky it'll only be in the high 90's when he gets here.

It's like a lot of big cities though with many great places to shop and things to do.

Is your friend a geek as well? What are his interests?

Well, he's a librarian, so there's bound to be interest in books. He is totally into bike riding (competitive, mountain, etc.) and would probably appreciate if someone could point him towards good bike trails. He looks cooking, so cool/weird food markets would be good.

Other than that, just general information. Where to see movies, where you can watch/listen to music, annual festivals or evenets (like, is there a Taste of Austin?)? I'm sure he'll figure things out on his own eventually, but I thought it would be nice to get some help pointing him in the right direction.

John,

Give him my email address and have him drop me a line. I'll be glad to meet with him once he gets here.

Rick
