Well, the first message in a new topic demands some sort of fanfare doesn't it? (Da-da-da-dah!)

Welcome to the Fairwood/Talebones board. Very kind of the Nightshade folks (Thanks, Jason) to set us up. We had a small board on our own site, but we've decided instead to invade NS space!

Talebones Magazine has been around since 1995. This summer we'll celebrate our tenth anniversary with our 30th issue. Fairwood Press began publishing book-length projects in 2000. You can get more information about both of our businesses by checking out our web pages:

http://www.talebones.com
http://www.fairwoodpress.com

Right now the walls are bare in here, but we hope you'll say hello and help get the party rolling.

Patrick---

Good to see you here.

Don't be intimated by those 11,000 posts. All you need is a troll or two and then say something controversial about the people running this country or about the NBA draft (or both!) and you'll be up over 10,000 in no time.

Great to see you here, Patrick.

What are your convention plans for the rest of the year? World fantasy? World Horror next year in San Francisco? (http://www.whc2006.org/)

Congrats on the 30th issue Milestone! I still remember meeting you at world horror in Phoenix, when you had a James Van Pelt story in Tale Bones, and I had AFTER SHOCKS forthcoming. Time keeps rolling on. Here's to your continued success..

Drop me an email off line -- I want to make sure you end up back on our reviewer list, now that we've re-consolidated shipping back in house. If there's anything your itching to review, but haven't got yet, let me know.

Wow...thanks for the warm welcome. Just got more posts in one day than I did in months on our forum system on our own websites. But it was somewhat temperamental, and of course we don't get nearly the traffic...

Okay, to specifics....

Gordon, I'm not big on the draft days in either NFL or NBA. Casual fan, but of course I actually have a team to root for come Saturday and the playoffs. Go Sonics! I do love the NCAA BB Tourney (I understand Deb Layne is the NCAA Queen though). Gordon, I need to pick your brain about a few things, too, publishing-related questions. I'll email you off board for those.

It's great to see so many names of people I know! I'll get Honna over here too; she'll love seeing folks.

I do understand how these things suck time out of ya. I'll have to be careful... <g>

More responses on next rock...

Des, I remember the stories you sent during those early years! Time flies. Yeah, we didn't manage to match up did we? Are you still submitting these days?

John, how's EV going? Forrest, I hear you're doing something with Deborah Layne and Wheatland?

Jeremy, I'll be going to Westercon in Calgary (I'll have a dealer table there). It might just be me, maybe the three of us. Some of you have never officially met Orion! I'll also be doing Nasfic here in Seattle. I'd like to get to World Fantasy, but that might be iffy. I definitely want to get to World Horror in San Francisco. That's at least "in the neighborhood." Honna went to Phoenix on her own in '04. I haven't gone since we put it on here in Seattle. I miss it! (How was WHC in NYC last weekend? We had Tom Piccirilli's new poetry book there via Borderlands, but haven't heard back from them about it.)

I remember that convention, Jeremy, with the debut of Aftershocks! Seems like an eternity ago. And look at you now! I'll email you about the review list...

Hello everyone and thanks for the welcome! I wanted to stop by and see the board. I like it! Thanks to Deborah for setting this up. It will be nice to hear from people I don't get to run into as much since I'm not doing as many cons as I used to.

Hi, Patrick. yes, you were one of several markets I never cracked.
A lot of my stuff has now appeared in a book entitled 'Weirdmonger'.
I don't really submit now ... but I'm reprinting all my previously printed stuff gradually here to be read for free:

Patrick, might you want to give the lost subscription database issue its own thread within your topic, to make sure people see it?

I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't recall, and can't find records, as to where I was in my Talebones subscription. Actually, it just occurs to me that perhaps I paid by paypal and can track that info down in my paypal account.

Anyhow, welcome!

Matt, hi! Good to see you at Norwescon. I did get an invite from V-Con. I'll have to consider going to that one. We went once a few years ago, not long after Orion was born.

How goes the writing? Working on something new, book-wise, story-wise?

Amy, great suggestion on getting a separate thread about the database. I'll get one started...

I'm not at home at the moment, so can't check the subscription database for your info. If you paid by PayPal, I may have already updated you, because I was able to go into my own PayPal history and check back a couple years. But I'll certainly take a look when I get home and let you know. (Or email me separately and I'll remember for sure!)

Patrick:

The writing goes well, the selling... not so much. I need more people to buy Black Brillion.

On the other hand, I'm selling shorts all over the place and I'm about to pitch a Henghis Hapthorn novel.

So on we go.

Hey, Matt...that's all we can do is go on! Well, if I could get TOR to send me more review books maybe we could review more of their titles. (BB is a TOR book, yes?) I get the ocassional ARC from David Hartwell...they tend to be things I'm not interested in, and/or books in series and such.

I like Paypal, but sometimes it does something tweaky that makes my head hurt. Got an email from someone who purchased three books from the Fairwood Press site who said it'd been 3 months and no books had arrived. Turns out I never got the email from PayPal about the purchase. But there it was, in my History. Ack. Off the order went today in the mail to the purchaser, with an extra book, complimentary, for the trouble.

Of course I rarely actually BUY anything with PayPal, so I just end up withdrawing funds to my bank account. And THAT's a nice PPP (PayPal plus).

Matt, how's that convention, overall the past few years? We went a few years ago for the first time...it was Orion's first convention.

I got an invite a few days ago, so thought I'd ask. It's during a busy convention season though.

Ken,

I hope you like the story. I enjoyed reading "The Man with...". In fact, the first three stories in issue 31 were brilliant (I've yet to read the others).

Being a Scot, I'd read the original Twa Corbies in high school and I love what Marie Brennan did with it.

Roll on 32!

We read "The Twa Corbies" in high school, too -- in Texas. (Don't ask me to explain it; for some reason, it was in our poetry textbook.) But I'd heard it before that, regardless.

Glad you liked the story!
