You've mentioned that you have a travel book in hand. Has it been published? (I'm way behind the times here!) And could you tell us something about it?

I contributed two of the sections in the last Rough Guide Women's Travel edition, for Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
I have got a whole set of interviews with women in Central Asia, which I really must do something about.
Also off to Siberia this summer, so who knows what will come of this?

I've been looking at your photos from Central Asia, and getting itchy feet. I've wanted to go there ever since I read that poem 'The Golden Journey to Samarkand'.
Those interviews you mention - is that 'Daughters of the Silk Road'?

Yes - that's the one.
Samarkand is part of the setting for the next novel with Bantam. It's a lovely, ancient, gilded city with a whacking (and not so lovely) Soviet identiplan city tacked onto it.
