This column went online Feb. 7th, but since these boards were down then, it's being discussed over at the Asimov's board, so I hesitate to start another one here, but do so for those who may not frequent the other forum.

It's titled "SFWA Nebula Apathy Slights Original Anthologies: Or Why I Like the Hugos" and it can be found at:

http://www.sfsite.com/fsf/2008/dt0803.htm

Lest anyone think I protest too much about the state of the Nebulas, it was pointed out in the Asimov's forum that the just-mailed February 2007 issue of LOCUS magazine contains a few words about the Nebulas (which I had not read at the time I turned in my column to GVG on January 29th) by the publisher/editor, Charles Brown. He calls the preliminary ballot "awful," the Nebulas pretty much "a joke," and doubts that they can be fixed.

So while bemoaning the state of this year's preliminary Nebula ballot, most of the "Apathy" column is for the upcoming Hugo voters, in the hope they won't make the same mistake(s) the Nebula nominators have.
