I have now finished reading all the 2007 issues (except December!)

my faves are (november update):

BACIGALUPI: The Tamarisk Hunter
CHIANG: The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate
COWDREY: Murder in the Flying Vatican
COWDREY: The Recreation Room
HUGHES: The Helper and His Hero
LANGAN: Episode Seven....
McLEOD: The Master's Miller Tale
MOFFETT: The Bird Shaman's Daughter
RANDALL: Lazaro y Antonio
RICKERT: Memoir of a Deer Woman
SHEPARD: Stars seen through Stone
SWANWICK: Urdumheim
WENTWORTH: Kaleidoscope
WOLFE: Memorare

Well, so far, a very very good year, especially at the novella length.

Personnally, I prefer novellas/long novelettes, because the setting, the characters and the plot are more developped. And I recall them better than shorter works, that I may enjoy when reading them, but then tend to forget. Even long novellas, such as Shepard's (72 pages!!!) are welcome.

Anybody here? Wake up call!! What are your favorite F&SF stories this year? Or those you didn't like?

Any potential awards there?

Who are your favorites authors? The new revelations? Your favorite features?

PS: I'd like to congratulate Elisabeth Hand for her books reviews: a delight! Lucius Shepard on his movies reviews too.

I'm so far behind! I haven't read a word of the magazine this year. I've been spending all my (rapidly diminishing) free time on this dumb novel reading thing I'm doing. There are some good novels out there, but nothing compares to short stories. Next year I'll make amends.
