I emailed PS and they said they were hoping to have the proper edition in print sometime in August-September. They now have a news blog too:

Another superb collection. The extensively revised 'Abimagique' worked for me as did 'Limbo'...I have to say I liked the resolution in this version more than the original. 'Dagger Key' styled too...I'd read about Anne, Mary and Calico Jack years ago, and mostly like pirate tales, Jack Sparrow aside.

It wouldn't break my heart if the first two novellas were expanded into novels, but that's true of a few dozen of LS's tales.

I'm glad I snaffled one of the fifty ReaderCon volumes. Still need a Ltd. Ed. though.

I wonder if Mr. Mieville has had a chance to finish his introduction?

I ordered DAGGAR KEY today from PS. On 9/8, I emailed Peter Crowther about the book's availability. He responded with relatively good news: "We're expecting (hoping!!) that DAGGER KEY will be available later this month."

Preordered copies to be mailed soon. I can't wait.

Received Dagger Key yesterday. Looks great, both the design and content. Can't wait to dive in.

Lucius: In the back-flap bio, it says you're working on a long "crypto-vampire novel." Anything you could share about this would be cool.

Kelly, I just don't feel comfortable in talking about this one. I will say that it involves a powerful political family in South Carolina. During the Civil War, their patriarch started a rumor that the family were vampires, this to make the Union forces in the area reluctant to seize their property--thus they managed to hold onto their lands. As a consequence, the family now celebrates the vampire.
They have invented a long and convoluted vampire history, hold vampire balls, fund a serology clinic in their town. It's all a game, an odd obsession...or is it?

BTW, I heard you were at readercon. Why didn't you say Hi?

Lucius: Thanks for the update on the vampire novel.

Nope, that wasn't me at ReaderCon. I would have certainly said "hi" -- and solicited you for an autograph or two -- if it was me. :-)

About that Villon quote:
"...when I lie down at night,
I have a great fear of falling."
(P. 465 of the Dagger Key story notes)

It comes from "Ballade du concours de Blois". In the original Old French, it reads:

"Gisant envers, j'ai grand paour de choir."

Hi Lucius. Got my copy of Dagger Key today, and I'm looking forward to reading it (I've just started Susan Palwick's new novel, but you're up next.)

I did take a peek at the Story Notes, and I wanted to ask about the Dragon Griaule collection you mentioned in the 'Liar's House' notes. Anything you can say about who might be publishing it, and when? I recall saying on one of the threads that I'd love to see a Griaule collection, so I'm glad to see it might be happening.

Okay, that's fair enough. Those notes also mentioned a book from NightShade next year, so that's good news.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story notes, Lucius, and hope you do more of them; any chance of such for the 'Best of Lucius Shepard' and 'Skull City'?

Also, I was wondering if 'The Taborin Scale' was eventually re-titled 'Liar's House'. Looking forward to that collection down the road.

It hasn't been mentioned.

No, the Taborin Scale, is a story that will appear in '09.
