So here's where to put the reports on Gators-LSU. I'll be in Managua but will be checking my computer until around eight at night. Sweaty palms and all.

Go GATORS...and canes.

I see NC STate whupped FSU last night. Anyone see that? Must have been awesome. I think D'amato has a winning record against Bowden.

Five times, I think, he's beaten his former boss.

I saw the first half, but that's it. I know NC St came back from a ten point deficit.

Yeah, FSU looked real flat. That NC State QB Evans can really throw and has some great wide-outs to throw to. Made me wonder wtf was going on with the Wolfpack's early games. Don't feel quite so bad about BC getting "Flutied" now. Down is up in the ACC. Is anybody really any good?

Anybody really good in the ACC? Mmm. No. SEC is the conference to beat this year (as in most years). Even there, though, the parity is amazing.

Well, the ACC certainly has no one comparable to, say, Wisconsin, conquerors of mighty Western Illinois, BG, SDSU... :-)

Yeah it's down. But so are a lot of conferences. The Big Two..,I mean, Ten. What was that OSU-Iowa score again? It's odd, though, the simultaneous slump.

BTW, I won't be anywhere near satellite for the Auburn game, so I'll still ask you to tape it, Darren.

Don't know if you're watching, Lucius, but it's 7-7 at the end of the 1st. Both TDs came after turnovers. Both teams moving the ball fairly well, considering the defenses involved -- particularly LSU's. Tebow a factor so far.

Speaking of PAC 10, I'd just like to point out that ASU was as over-rated as I thought they were. Will it ever end? Can't we all just admit that ASU blows (and most of the rest of the PAC 10, for that matter)?

Auburn-FL should be a great game. I'm thinking FL has the edge, but just barely. Mostly because of momentum. Also, with Tee-bow cutting his teeth against LSU - man, that kid's going to be something else.

Arkansas is young team that's growing. At the first of the year, they hadn't turned things over to Mustain at QB. And, too, it was a trap game for Auburn, who had to be looking past them a little. You can't look past anyone in the SEC.

UCF/Pitt should be a really good game.

Curious how badly MI will beat PSU without Manningham. They'll win, for sure, question is, by how much? Manningham is quite a weapon.

Wisconsin has been getting stronger as the season has progressed, despite their admittedly weak competition. The loss to MI doesn't look so bad, when you take a look at the Wolverine's firepower. The goofers won't be able to stop Hill or Beckum. This isn't last year's Minnesota team (though, I have to admit that they got robbed by the refs at the PSU game), and the BADgers are hungry to win this one. It's a huge rivalry, and the BADgers aren't going to get caught unaware in this one. Besides, who is MN going to have run the ball? Maroney's long gone, and they are really missing him. We're missing Calhoun a lot less (thanks to Hill). Our D should just absolutely stuff the run and our secondary has only really been beat twice - both times by Manningham on perfectly-thrown Henne passes. MN doesn't have a Henne/Manningham equivalent. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the BADgers give them a drubbing with dominating defense. I've been wrong before.

I think I'd lean Navy as well, Darren, but I dunno. Rutgers has the fire in their belly now . . .

I doubt none of that--well, maybe the Michigan game, which I attribute in large part to Michigan's lack of inspiration--but still, like you say, it's a rivalry game. Things happen in game like that that just can't be explained. With 16 and a half points, I'm inclined to go with Minne; but I'll probably lay off it. There are better bets.

I'd go with Rutgers, too. Don't know the spread.

Re the Mich-Penn State game, Arrington and Breaston have really been coming on. Manningham will be missed, but they have enough talent to make up for the loss.

I gave you no advice, Darren. I simply said what I was doing. The bet made sense. It was a trap game for Pitt, with Rutgers next week, and UCF is having a down year--knocking off Pitt would make their season, and they do have some talent. Win some, lose some. The important thing is, it made Deborah happy.

You can always buy a day of espn gameplan for 20 bucks. Actuallly gameplan cost 99 for the whole season and is a good deal. You get a lot of choices. Leaned that from Deborah, queen of the panthers.

Just like regular lines. At halftime they set a new line and a new over/under. The advantage is, you've seen how the teams are playing each other for one half. It's especially interesting in the case of a blowout game, where a team is up 63-3 at half. You gotta believe any coach with any sense of decency about him is going to lay off, put in his third team, etc. Yet they have these 23-point lines. Not always, mind you. But sometimes.

I'd welcome that. There's some noise about if he wins the ACC, he'll save his job. As unnatural as it is, I'm rooting for Miami to lose a couple more games. I don't want to see them get horribilized in a bow; again.

Re Pitt. Next week should tell a lot. They're obviously a better team than they were at the beginning of the year. I'm getting a feeling that their games v Louisville and WVA may decide the Big East.

You know I'm no fan of The U, but if Coker can keep his job by winning the ACC this year, then what you need is a new AD. That would be ridiculous. He's lost the team. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that.

I don't think there's much chance of them winning. I think they're going to lose to Clemson and Ga Tech, maybe even Va Tech and Boston College. But I agree, and they have a shot at winning; with their personnel on D, if the offense can give them anything, they might exceed my expectations. It's a mess. But you know how the ESPN folks would react--They'd go off on Coker's winning percentage, and say he won the ACC and lost his job blah blah. It might confuse the climate.

But like I said, not much chance of that.

Not even a little bit of a fan? :-)

They're still sorting out the Mia-Fla Int mess. 7 ejections so far Miami's #24 took off his helmet and used it like a fucking mace. He's gotta go, for good.

Florida botched punt. Mishandled then blocked by Auburn for a TD. Auburn leads 18-17.

Don't lose your happy thoughts yet. It's early in the 3rd.

3 and out Florida. Auburn's D's stepped it up. Good news is that Florida got the punt off this time. Apparently the last two by this punter were blocked.

Auburn at their own 45. 10 minute mark in third.

LSU 35-0 in 3rd. Good call, meistro.

Auburn punts into endzone. Gators at the 20...

Other items of interest today...Vandy defeats Georgia. Weird. Adrian Peterson breaks collar bone, on the first game his dad gets to watch after being released from prison!

Crazy shit happening. Questionable Leak fumble (arm seemig to go forward) gives Auburn the ball back. They've just converted a third down, are on the Gator 42 with seven and a half left.

Auburn misses a field goal with 3:15 to go. Florida takes over with no timeouts, but only a field goal from the win. Hold on to your...bananas.

Well, Leak has thrown an interception. Not much pressure, just a stupid play. 33 seconds left. Auburn trying a FG with .35...hits it.

Florida has 31 seconds and no timeouts to get TD.

Some of my favorite moments in sports come when sportswriters wax moral. From what I've read, talking about the Miami brawl, it's like a bunch of Baptist preachers having a few drinks before a stoning. Plllory them. Break their legs and leave them to die in the desert. The funniest was Joe Thiesman, who I heard called Miami the M, a Notre Dame guy, got all tight in the jaws and blamed Miami for everything. Hey, Joe. Tell us what it's like to whack Cathy Crosby around, will ya? Fuck. This is the final nail in Coker's coffin, so it makes me no never mind. This weekend I hope the Canes perform an onfield gang rape of the Duke qb if it'll get Coker gone before the end of the season.

Hey, Deborah, you're back. Welcome back.

tough luck about Fla. I am almost glad BC is in the hard part of their schedule, since they seem to play up or down to the level of opposition. Maybe FSU and Miami will bring the best out of them.

Everyone is playing the brawl like Coker has lost control of the team, so this may be just the lever Shalala needs to get his behind out of town.

Something clearly needs to be done. I can understand them losing to FSU and Louisville, but struggling with FIU? That was really embarrassing and it's no wonder the guys felt like fighting.

Remember, Shalala was key in hiring Alvarez . . . They're pretty good friends . . . just sayin'.

There's a lot of hot air being blown around right now that she will offer Alvarez the job - she did previously, actually (this is in his new book, which I have no desire to read, but I've heard some interesting tidbits about it - apparently he got really burned out on recruiting, anyway, I'm on a tangent), and he declined. I don't think he'd accept now, but you never know. Stranger things have happened.

Well, I got this to say about that.

It won't happen.

If it does happen, I'm turning in my fan credentials, because the last thing I wanta see at the M (I use the Heisman pronunciation) is boring thumpity thump Alvarez ball. That's how you play if you got a whole lot of big, thick, white steroid-filled lumps--what we're used to is sleek, rapid, black steroid-filled lumps.

If they hired him as AD that might be ok as long as he wasn't allowed anywhere near the practice field and they didn't let him hire people or do anything except sit there like a frog and pose for pictures and belch about recruiting only quality Christian athletes.

But God bless him.

In all honesty, I'm not a big Alvarez fan either. I was so glad when Chryst came along and started changing things up. And Bielema's letting Chryst do his thing, which Alvarez would never have done.

In any case, I don't think he'll take the Miami job, either.

How bout Rutgers-Pitt, Deborah. Could be a contest!

Well, after facing all these SEC defenses, Bama's probably just thinking it'd be nice to score an offensive t-down, yanno?

Rutgers-Pitt is going to be, dare I say it...a paw-biter. If Pitt's D plays like they have the last two weeks...I like their chances. But it'll be close. Field goals will be kicked.

Rutgers-Pitt oughtta be great.

What's the line? Where's the game?

I think Pitt may have more talent, but the Rutgers coach probably gets the nod over Wanny. Might come down to that. Sure 'nuff sounds like a paw biter.
