Because, according to the Department of Homeland Security, the city of New York filled out the application inadequately, the city has been declared at low risk of terrorist attack and will receive drastically reduced funding for security from the govt. Charlotte NC must have done a hell of a job with that application -- their funding has been drastically increased and they have been accorded highest risk status. It's clear that the secret is out -- the outlaw Islamic forces have scried out the fact that the city of Charlotte contains America's greatest treasures and resources.
I suppose this makes sense on some Bushian level, but man it just seems insane to me...

Christ, now I gotta move again. I don't want to get any fallout on me ...

I think where you go, Nathan, they'll find you.
Apparently there are many monuments and terrorist targets in Charlotte -- probably they're after Jim Baker's old Heritage Park.

Amazingly, Michael Chertoff asserts there are no targets or national landmarks in NYC. So the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, the Statue of Liberty, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Chrysler Building, Madison Square Garden, Times Square, various Broadway theaters, Radio City Music Hall, etc., aren't as worthy of protection as downtown Omaha, Nebraska.
Even nuttier, DC's funding was also slashed. DC is nothing BUT landmarks with a city stapled on.
The Bush offensive against the Blue States continues apace. If you don't want to be blown up, move to a red state where your vote will be cancelled out.

Yeah, I know. And lest we forget, the subway.
What was it Country Joe said, Whoopee, we're all gonna die...

News flash: Homeland Security is now proposing an additional budget that would cut NYC's bioterrorism grants by 17%, with hot spots like Wyoming and N. Dakota getting 4x as much funding per capita.
Anywhere there is money to be dispensed in Washington, there is going to be pork-barrel squabbling by politicians. Even where it concerns national defense.

Where's Ralph Guliani? Oh...that's right. In a three-way with George and Laura.

I don't know...The New York Post (usually right of Pat Buchanan) has been pretty pissed about this. If the Bushies alienate Rupert Murdoch, could they lose Fox News? Could this drive Shrub's approval rating below the freezing mark?
This administration doesn't seem to have nearly enough feet for it to shoot off.

yes, to all questions. It may actually help the liberal cause, but come the election, the Dems will be doing the foot-shooting.
