Saw a great receiver in the Hula Bowl, Branford Marshall. 6'6", 235, wideout who plays like a te and a wideout combined. Also, Josh Betts, the QB who took over for Roethlisberger at Miami. Same size approx as Rberger and plays the same way, scrambles in order to give his receivers time to get open.....

Texas' own David Thomas scored a TD. I think he'll be a decent NFL TE.

What a crappy week in Badgerdom. Okay, Men's hoops losing at OSU is forgivable, but ND State! At Home! NDSt is such a new Div 1 hoops team they don't even have a conference, fer crissake. And now we lose our most talented frosh, Marcus Landry, for the rest o the year for academic reasons. Throw in the Men's Hockey team getting swept by Denver (granted, just lost our goalie for a month), thereby losing our #1 ranking--to BC no less (talk about embarassing, huh Dave? :-)). And we lost out to Mississippi for stud JUCO QB Brent Schaeffer. The only saving grace is the Women's Hockey team still dominating as #1 in country.

Yeah, not a good week to be a Madisonian. It's been rather glum here.

Oh, and Orr tore his hamstring at the Hula Bowl. And a couple of more football players were suspended for smoking weed, driving, and getting caught doing it.

Still, it's better than Shoegate (tm).

On a personal note, Gators have the no. 1 class so far, and Miami has the 15th ranked class and No 5 star players.

I notice the Gators spring squad includes an inordinate number of huge freshman and sophomore linemen, led by true freshman Carl Johnson at 355. This accords with Meyer's template at Utah. I didn't count but there look to be a dozen or so freshman and soph 300 pounders.

UW's defense has shown strong, as expected, in practice. Today, though, PJ Hill, who looks like he'll be the starter at RB, ripped off a 63 yarder for a TD against the 1st team defense. Jerry Butler, also a RB, ran a 70 yarder for TD against the #2 defense.

Stocco is, apparently, far ahead of both Donovan and Sherer at QB. Sherer seems to be pulling up, though, and might eclipse Donovan (who is a junior, if I remember correctly) as the backup.

The new, young WR team is working some bugs out, as you'd expect.

It's hard to tell if UM's D is that dominant or if the offense is inept--I suspect both are true. Charlie Jones had some nice runs, but the D is, as usual, scary. I hoping the O is inept, because that'll be it for Coker.

If Stocco's way ahead, I wouldn't take that as being good news. He had a decent bowl game, but he's still not dependable.

Tim Tebow looked as good as advertised in his first test as a Gator, completing 15 of 21 passes for 197 yards as his Orange team easily beat Leak's Blue team 24-6 in the Gatpr Spring Game.

Leak threw an interception on his first series and had trouble moving the ball all afternoon in the controlled scrimmage. He didn't score until the final minutes of the scrimmage, didn't throw a touchdown pass and completed 17 of 33 for 145 yards.

Hey, the BADgers just picked up a verbal commit from native OL Josh Oglesby, who some are calling the best OL prospect out of Wisconsin in the last 30 years (still trying to figure out who it was that was so impressive 30 years ago) and who many think is the best OL prospect in the nation for 2007. Sounds like a pretty solid verbal. He picked the BADgers over ND, USC, FSU, OSU, and MI, among others. Rumor has it that Charlie Weiss sent a really nasty text message to Oglesby when the corpulent coach learned that Josh had committed to WI. Apparently, Weiss invested a lot in his recruitment and was not a very happy man.

So we've got the top OL in the US and made ND cry about it at the same time. It's like icing on the cake. :-):-):-)

Who says good things don't happen in the off-season?

My only joy is that this will be Coker's last stand. I expect 4-5 losses.

Forrest meant single offensive lineMAN (OL) rather than best overall OL, which may be tough to swallow. We've got some unproven guys.

Oh, and best UW lineman in 30 years? Clearly that would've been Mike Webster, though technically, that's 32 years. (IIRC, he was drafted by Steelers in 74)

No, not the whole line. Sorry, I should have been a little more clear.

The hope is, John Clay (one of the top *single* RBs in the nation, and the top WI RB in ever) now comes on board with the BADgers, then lures in an as-yet-unidentified star QB. Domino effect could get Bret Bielema the best recruiting class WI has ever had. I'm holding out hope . . .

Perhaps so. But the Cooter family has a history of alcohol abuse, dating back to the 15th century, when Sir Edwin Cooter was decapitated by royal decree for taking a bath in a barrel of the king's brandy....of course the Cooter coat of arms happens to be a dead ringer for the Ralston Purina checkerboard, so...
