3:30 PM #5 Miami at Wake Forest
3:30 PM Iowa at #14 Wisconsin

Big week in the SEC, obviously. The big matchup, LSU-Bama, may not be as interesting as the one between Florida and SC. Me, I wouldn't bet against Spurrier.

Well, they've struggled with everyone this year and Vandy, with Cutler, is better than they have been...and it was the week after the Georgia game. That's the biggest reason,

You make a great point. Miami does look like a NC team at this point in the season. And they ARE one flukey botch away from the top two. It will be interesting to see what will happen if Tejas loses the Big XII championship, Bama loses and Miami avenges the FSU loss in a decisive fashion.

I doubt Tejas will lose. Oh well. BTW, Miami picked up three bigtime recruits yesterday including (and this is rich) one guy who was at the game on his VA Tech recruiting visit. Chuckle, chuckle. All defensive players by the way.

Vandy actually looked pretty good, from what I saw of the game. Cutler threw for 367 yards and looked really good. TN better be worried . . . I'm hoping the commode-odors win out and go bowling.

Oh, and John flashed a "hook 'em" from the podium while receiving the WFA. Wish I had a camera - it was cute!

A possibility, yeah. But my feeling is that without their playmaker, Prothro, they won't make it. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they lost this weekend. But if you take a look at the remaining schedules for Texas and USC...I mean they're pathetic. I don't see 'em losing. And if Miami wins out, I think they might pass Alabama in the poll. If both win out, they'll play each other in the Rose Bowl. The score of that game would be about 2-0. But frankly I can see both teams dropping a game. Auburn won't be a pushover. FSU's a challenge. It ain't easy in the SEC and ACC.

Oh yeah, and Bama lost their center this weekend, the only senior on an otherwise inexperience O-line.

It looks as if the Big East may come down to the Bulls and the Mountaineers. If the Bulls pull it off, there'll be a three loss team in the BCS.

I have a feeling that Northwestern is going to beat Ohio State. Just a hunch.

In fact, there's the potential for a whole slew of upsets this weekend. I'd be careful if I were a longhorn fan - laying 62 on Baylor . . . well, there are several teams that can pull that trick, they just don't happen to play in the Big XII. Kansas might prove to be stiff competition. We BADger fans have to be careful too, but for the opposite reason - we'll be coming off a week where we got spanked and if Stocco isn't on anti-depressants, things could go south against Iowa really quick.

Let me jump in here as a long-time diehard Bama fan (my grandmother did it to me when I was a young lad) to say that, should we manage to win out, I'd love the challenge of either a Texas, USC, or Miami. It would be highly disappointing of course to not have an opportunity to play for the national championship. But I think these four teams would make a great playoff, and could contend with each other for the better part two halves. Sure, Bama has no offense of late, but they have a great defense that is next to impenetrable in the red zone -- and the potential for the big play remains even on the offense. This weekend will show whether they can stay in there with a potent offense. I saw that the line on the game is 2 1/2 LSU. What's your opinion on that, Lucius?

I hope you don't mind my jumping in here out of the blue. I've been hanging around incognito watching the discussion the past couple weeks.

Of course not, Darren. Welcome. You'll find you have a sister fan in Deborah, who hangs out here.

And good on your grandma...

Auburn gave LSU all it could handle, before losing 27-24. As a handicapper, I rate the game a toss-up. As a fan, I might lean a bit toward Bama. But that said, Croyle has to hit some big plays on the LSU d, cause I don't think they can get much out of the running game unless Croyle backs off the LSU linebackers...

That's my assessment, FWIW

I'd love to see Bama and Miami hop over Those Other Two Teams, but it seems pretty unlikely. And, yeah, quick show of hands...how would you prefer to close out your season?

1. LSU and Auburn

2. Wake, GT and UVa

3. Kansas and A&M

4. Cal, Fresno St and UCLA

Enough said.

BTW, Bucky BADger is cute as a button.

And, since Pitt is...er...rebuilding, let me add: Go Bulls!!

The Badgers have been winning on a wing and a prayer all season. I'm happy with where they're at. If we take care of Iowa (we should, but even with their personnel losses, the Iowa line always seems to kick our butts--hopefully not this year), we'll still be playing New Year's Day, hopefully against someone we matchup well against. In truth, so few teams look really dominant, that I like our chances against anyone outside the top five or so.

How about ND? There are gonna be some teams putside the top five who I'd take in a heartbeat over the BADgers. The LSU-BAMA loser, for instance. FSU. Any decent passing team would give the BADgers hell. That said, they have had a great season.

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but you're right Lucius. Unless we heal. If we could have everyone at full strength, I like our chances against just about anyone, but some players are out for the season (Bernstein, for example).

I'm really happey with the Badger's performance this year, though. Curious to see what happens next year, when PSU graduates a bunch of people (91 is going away, isn't he? Please?) and our young players have had a season under their belts. Our only weakness will be at WR - seniors are going away and our underclassmen WRs haven't really had much of a chance to play.

I don't think Texas is taking Kansas lightly. Kansas has a so-so record, but they have a top five defense. Plus, Kansas came to Austin last year and it took an 18 yard Vince Young run on 4th and 14 to save the season.

Texas should be able to handle this one, but it still makes me nervous.

For SEC fans this is just about the ultimate week, but the game that's got me screwed up is Fla-SC. I was just talking to Jeff V off the board, so I know I'm not alone. I need to employ one of those half comedy, half tragedy masks.

I see that LSU is now a four point favorite in some sports books, 2 and a half in others, which creates a middle, which enables one to bet huge sums with impunity. You bet Bama and LSU and hope for a three point LSU win, in which case you win both bets. It's a better's dream and I have already taken advantage. Worst case, I lose the vig on one bet.

Uh, yeah, that's probably it.

Bogus pass int. call on Fla. But SC is taking it to em.

I'll answer my own question. After watching Basanez for a half, I don't think he can play at the next level. Maybe a backup. He doesn't react to pressure well and starts heaving the ball around. He does make some good throws, but against pro corners a lot of those would be ints.

NW is dead, long live NW.

navy is moving the ball on ND, but they better get a passing game going if they want to stay in it. Brady Quinn is good, and I hate him.

Well, my predictions for today really suck. Hopefully I'll get all my bad prognosticating demons out before it's time for the bowl pool.

Navy is now melting. bummer. I had hoped they had a chance.

Michigan better be careful - they might injure the water boy if they throw him in during the 4th quarter. Sheesh. Indiana has recruited some killer players this past year, but I have no confidence that they can do anything with them. I'm not complaining, mind you.

..Here in Gainesville half the
town now thinks that Spurrier is worse than Bobby
Bowden, and the other half wants Foley's head for
failing to bring Spurrier back. Meyer's honeymoon is
definitely over. If next season isn't a lot better
they'll start to Zook him. Too bad Kentucky won't
beat Georgia next week.

Picking so many games is just a joke -- no one can do so with regularity. It's much easier to pick a few games against the spread. Take yesterday. I thought GA-Auburn was going to be hairline so I stayed away from it. I might have taken Ga and ALabama if I'd been picking volume.

Anyway, on to next week, rivalry week, where the results are more unpredictable....
