Just been informed the Viator won an IGH award. Wish I could have been in Madison to collect it...

Fan-fucking-tastic! It's one of my favorites of yours. Are you still planning on rewriting the end?

Congratulations.
I just finished reading it last week. Now I'm curious what the rewrite will be like.

Thanks. Basically I rewrote and expanded the ending, I sorta fell apart from overwork while finishing the thing and sank into clinical depression. So the narrative concerning the iron shore never was resolved, or even really fully stated, and brought together with the main narrative. Now it has been resolved.

From strength to strength. Congratulations, as always, to a guy who deserves all the good fortune out there. Wouldn't it be wild if the revised version of Viator wins the same award next year?

Take good care of yourself. I hope the family and I get to see you soon (maybe at the 2006 WorldCon or World Fantasy conventions).

Congrats, Lucius. It's a real purty award. I know, 'cuz I shined it wiff my . . . well, never you mind! :-)

And I'd be remiss if I didn't note that Brian Evenson won for best single author collection, and deservedly so. I accepted the award for him . . . but didn't add any extra shine.

I'm congratulating you like you so rightly deserve. :-)

"Tomorrow's the night for yer annual humiliation."

Unfortunately, humiliation for me is far more than an annual occurence but hopefully it won't be from the game tomorrow. But then again, this is the Patriots the Colts are playing against....

In case you couldn't recognize my voice amid the din of dozens shouting their congratulations on my cellphone on Thursday night:

GOODONYA, Mate. Well deserved (and I'd like to think that John's cover for your books had a lot to do with his World Fantasy Award. It's always nice when the world surprises you and good things happen to people who deserve it. Congrats again.)

Thanks Minz. John's covers are incredible. It's too bad there's only one award for art -- there should be awards fpr illos, mag cover, mainstrean book covers, etc,

Actually, the Chesleys do address several categories, and is decided by artists (i.e. people best qualified to judge quality), and, oh yeah, that's right, John won one of those this year as well. Our boy is kicking some serious ass this year.

Hey, Lucius --

Again, congrats on the win for VIATOR. No one in that audience was happier than I was for you, when I heard your name announced. I know you labored sentence to sentence with that thing, and in the end, you still wanted it to be better. I told you when I was 50 pages in that I already thought it was gonna go down as one of the best books of the year, and I'm glad other folks agree. Hard to imagine that the rewrite will be even better, but I'm certain it will because you won't rest until it is. :-)

Again, hope you feel better over there. We missed you out there in Madison, but it was good to hear your voice when we dogpiled on you victory-style, courtesy of Minz' cellphone.

You'll also be heartened to know that my fiancee Traci was parked in front of the TV at the hotel bar to cheer for her 'Canes over the Hokies Saturday night. Boy, she sure was happy. That was a dominant win for Miami. We all had a feeling you were doing a bit of partying after that one. :-)

Yeah, I was partying in my chair. Next year, I party for real. If Miami and Bama win out, they'll meet in a BCS bowl. That should be a real smashmouth game.

The rewrite of Viator is about 20,000 words longer now and completes the narrative of the Iron Shore....It feels better to me.

Thanks again for the congrats and the call.

Tell Traci, Go Canes!
