Since most of you will be at WFC, this will be a forlorn little thread, as will I be...forlorn. But nonetheless, a good weekend for football, with the BADgers and the Canes and the Panthers being preeminent. Enjoy!

Fashion review: actually loved those Canes throwback unis...they should trot those out more often. Worst fashion statement of the week...those ridiculous looking asymetrical things the Gators were wearing, which looked like somebody's mom sewed 'em.

BC/UNC could be a really good game. Miami's going to have their hands full. The BADgers will have the talent to win, but won't. Pitt can handle Louisville, but will they? South Carolina kills Arkansas. Though I hate both teams, I hate Notre Dame more, so I'm hoping they lose . . . or Tennessee . . . heck, I don't care, just so long as one of the team's fans get really, really depressed. That sort of thing makes me happy! :-)

For the Eagles, 9-2 would be nice. 8-3 would be OK. A nice second-tier bowl during New Years' week. That would be a satisfying debut in the ACC. Then, we just hope O'Brien can scour the NE and recruit our way to the next level.

I guess i'm pulling for the Vols to win -- that would point up the domer's racism nicely. Otherwise, I pretty much agree with you, Forrest.

For BC in the ACC, the next level is the basement. :-)

I'm going to be pulling for the Vols for the same reason...plus, it's too late to save the Vols season and the loss would knock ND out of the top ten. I saw a projection that had ND playing Penn State in a BCS bowl. That would make me ill.

I think they don't have a QB and Fulmer's going to run out of people to blame. They have two guys on the roster who could start in almost any other Div I school, but guess what happens when you try to play two QBs? Right. Neither of them ever settles into a rhythm or develops the right kind of leadership or becomes comfortable enough in a game situation to be able to adjust to defenses.

Let's hope the placebo affect gets them past ND and then they lose the rest of their games and Fulmer gets his ample ass booted down to Div II.

Posted on Tuesday, November 01, 2005 - 01:54 pm:

Yeah, that sounds about right.

I been thinking about the NC game...and just to throw gasoline on the Longhorn fire, if USC, Texas, VT and Bama all win out, then I'd argue for VT-Bama on strength of schedule, because I think USC (great though they may be) has the easiest schedule of the four and struggled in more against lesser teams, even when they did win the games. The ACC and SEC are much tougher conferences. And how many top ten teams have Texas and USC played this year. I don't know and I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but won't Bama and VT have played more of them?

On some level, though, I'm not sure I care who gets the glass trophy at the end. If the above happens, I'd want to see a play-off just because that would be three excellent football games.

Posted on Tuesday, November 01, 2005 - 02:11 pm:

If they win out, SC (ND, UCLA), Texas (OSU, Texas Tech) and Bama (FL, LSU) will each have beaten two top ten teams.

VT will have only played and beaten one (the Canes). VT will be undone by the relatively disappointing seasons of NC State, Maryland, WVU and Virginia, all of whom were expected to be pretty tough in the pre-season.

Thank you, Jesus!

But the top ten thing, they (Texas, USC) may have played as many top ten teams, but they're bogus top tens for the most part -- Texas Tech, UCLA, etc. I'd go along with BAMA-VT. I don't care if Texas and USC go undefeated -- they play in lame-ass conferences, esp USC. Usually there are two good teams in the Big 12, at least. Not this year, howsomever. Aside from Texas, the Big 12 is 4-10 against non-conference foes, and that include a lucky Neb win over Pitt. I think the NC should be decided between the winner of the SEC and the ACC, no matter how many game they lose...that is, if they don't have a playoff.

Oh, and I'm sure this will amuse everyone. In his weekly press conference, somebody asked Wannstedt about how Paul Rhoads (DC) was planning to handle Louisville given that they average 64 points/game at home. Wannstedt said it was OC Matt Cavanaugh's problem, not Paul Rhoads.

"If they score 64, we need to score 65, so I'm leaving that up to Matt."

Yeah, correct. I forgot about the ACC Championship game. And Bama will have to face GA or FL, another likely top ten.

Unfortunately for Va Tech, with Miami and FSU left on the schedule, the odds of them finishing undefeated are rather slim. All Texas and USC will have to do is beat Colorado and UCLA, respectively.

How ironic that the conf championship games are big money spinners for the ACC and SEC, but ultimately hurt their teams' races for the NC.

Strong looked good, as did Blades. The D-line, though, was awfully bendy. Or just awful. The O-line didn't have much push either. Palko's a great QB if he has time to throw. IF. They looked quite good at the skill positions, actually. If they only had lines that could push, they'd be BE champions.

Louisville is fast. Really fast. I was impressed with their quickness on both sides of the ball.

Possibly the most exciting opening 25 seconds I've seen in a ball game!!

Yeah, the opening was good, albeit fluky. Lville's fast, but a good D that pressures Brom will fuck them up. If they're matched wrong in a bowl, they may get toasted. That they've lost two games in conference testifies to that. I talked to Deborah last night and assured her that she wouldn't have enjoyed herself, unless she took a scholarly approach to the game.

Howdya like the College Gameday uni feature? Did Larry Coker really swear never to wear the throwbacks again? Why on earth would he do such a thing?

Well, BC's little visit to the Top 25 was fun while it lasted. But we have not risen above minor bowl status yet. The truth hurts.

You weren't jinxing the BADgers, Lucius. Our offensive line was just dominated by PSU's defensive ends. Stocco looked like a piece of leaky meat by the end of the third quarter, which is unfortunate because he played pretty well, considering all the pounding he was taking.

The Canes looked really good. Not as crisp as in past years, but they still looked really good.

And how about Kansas spanking Nebraska!! I laughed out loud when I saw that score. It was a healing balm after a hurting BADger loss.

Oh, and did you see Fullmer on the sidelines at the end of the TN/ND game? He was bent over looking like he was about to throw up. He might have been thinking about his next job at I-AA.
