Gotta like the home teams in the Big ten match-ups. The only one I wouldn't bet is BADgers-Gophers, cause I never wager money on teams with so many defensive issues. They're such similar teams, it's scary. I'm afraid the Gators are gonna get whomped again, but LSU, apparently, isn't Bama. Let's hope this is last game in the Temple-Miami series.

Lucius, is UCLA sneaking up under your radar? I'm thinking their last game of the season might be a great one . . . and might just unseat USC, just maybe.

Go Gators!

Man, I hope USC whups the leprauchan's butt. I want to see the entire town of South Bend weeping!

Colorado/TX might be closer than expected.

Let's hope this is Temple's last game . . . Can they be demoted to I-AA?

As to the last sentiment, let's hope Duke follows Temple into obscurity.

Colo-Texas. Maybe a little closer, but I don't believe it. Miami beat 'em by three TDs with a freshman QB.

I don't care to hear about USC-ND unless there's a major disaster involved.

I don't believe in UCLA, either. But the Pac10 is the conference without a defense, so maybe...

I might consider WVU over Louisville this weekend. The Cardinals have never been exposed to the battery-throwing toothness fans....

Louisville-WVU is what we in the Big East call A Real Couch-Burner. You're right about the Morgantown advantage.

Can we take up a collection and send Lloyd Carr some performance enhancing supplements? How about a new play book?

How about a condo in Florida? Get his ass gone. I'm sure Alex agrees. But if they beat PSU, as I think they will, he'll be back in the graces of some...but if he loses...?

The Morgantown Advantage, Huh? It's like playing versus Pumpkinhead.

Despair not, Forrest. While NW may have romped over UW running out of the spread, I think our D will fare better against the MN sets. Look for Crooks to get some serious playing time, and he'll rack up the tackles.

Yeah, well, who needs you guys when we've got Destiny?

Although, I must admit, these guys do have probably the lamest fight song on record:

USF Fight Song
Go Bulls,
Go Bulls Go
USF Bulls we are,
we hold our standard upright and free.
For green and gold we stand united,
our beacon lighted and noble to see.
USF Bulls we are,
For USF we'll always be. With all our might
we fight the battle here and now,
South Florida, South Florida, South Florida
Go Bulls Go.
Go Bulls Go.

They're going to have to upgrade if they expect to play in the BCS...

Turf toe's a condition that can be very painful, but I've come to think that Moroney's back-up is quite capable of racking up big numbers. However, I'm certain the estimable Mr Crooks will make all the difference. :-)

That's not the South Florida fight song. The real fight song is a rap and unprintable. I'll reprise some of the cleaner parts:

During the game, we're sho' nuff he-men,
At intermission, buy our frozen semen.
When we come to town, expect decimation,
'cause ain't nothin' artificial 'bout our insemination...

USF Bulls....USF Bulls...

We're building a team with recruiting remains
We will simply not be beat
We're Florida's best from Tampa/St. Pete

Join the cheer and hip-hooray
We're the best in North-Central-Southwest F-L-A!

This has made me realize that Pitt needs a thrash metal fight song. Something along these lines:

Pittsburgh Panthers!
We’re gonna win this game
We can't take it any other way
Pittsburgh Panthers!
The sign of living fast
It is going to take
Your breath away

Don't stop for nothing its third down and fourteen
We’re taking down you know whatever’s in our way
Getting your kicks as you’re throwin’ down the line
Send in the punting team, for the last time!

For Boston, For Boston
We'll kick your freakin' ass
For Boston, For Boston
As we slam another Bass
The paddies have been drunk since the stroke of noon,
And they'll use your players' bench for a big spitoon,
For Boston, For Boston
'Till we're tossed in jail again!

I've known of Voivod since the mid-80s. As opposed to Void, which typified the BADger secondary this last week.

So, Penn State or Michigan? I'm thinking Michigan in a close one.

"Ghost Reveries," yes. They have more than one. I'd also suggest "Blackwater Park," but it's more death metal than progressive, whereas "Ghost Reveries" is the other way around (and is more recent, which shows the direction they're going).

I'll have to check out Ephel Duath. Sounds intriguing.

They look about like they did against Bama.

And hey, Jeff, Pitt's coming back, they're 3-4 now. Unfortunately they couldn't schedule Cinci and USF more than once, so three wins may be it for the year.

I think LSU may beat Bama.

LSU does worry me, but at least it'll be in Tuscaloosa. I think the Tide mighta been looking down the road at TN and went in not expecting to get a game from Old Miss.

I wonder who the wisconsin hater is? Could it be Barth? Whatever, to me it was a game neither team deserved to win. Minnesota's pass defense was as bad as Wisconsin's was last week, and Wisconsin, going against an inexperienced back-up should have done a better job against the run. But hey, that's the way it bounces....

Better lucky than good!

To Wisconsin hater:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAA!!!! WE WON! DEAL WITH IT!

What a weird day in football. Some nailbiter games. Glad to see MI bump off PSU with one second left and, of course, see the BADgers steal the game from MN. Not to mention USC lucking out against the green twinkeltoes. I thought FL should have won their game, given the number of turnovers they forced.

Outside of FL losing, my only regret is that UCLA is behind Washington State. Congrats all the way around, I think (condolences on FL). Oh, and GO BAYLOR! :-)

WVU 46-Lville 44 in a bunch of overtimes. That was cool. Who's gonna win the BE?

The outcome of ND-USC is the worst of all possible worlds, because it helps with NDs recruiting and ushers in yet another USC NC.

Florida sucks...
UCLA has got to be awful to fall behind WAZZU, because they're one of the worst teams in the nation!

Wow -- I can't believe WVU pulled that one out -- I went to run errands and missed it.

That means Pitt and WVU and Rutgers are all 2-1 in the BE. Man, if Pitt wins the Big East, they should refuse to be the BCS Human Sacrifice two years in a row. Send somebody else, says I.

Yeah, congrats all around, except, sorry about the Gators.

"UCLA has got to be awful"

Tell that to their last five opponents.

So I still have a lingering question: Is Texas Tech for real? The answer's coming next week.

No one is going to win the BE. It'll be a tie for last.

Do you think WVU will lose at some point? I wonder if Rutgers might sneak in. Who was it on this board that was picking Rutgers as their Cinderella? You might just be right.

No, Texas Tech is not for real. No, UCLA, who's losing 38-21 is not for real. They play in the fucking Pac 10, which has one good team and ten mediocre to lousy teams. The BADgers arent for real, the Canes aren't for real, the Noles aren't for real, Penn State's not for real. Va Tech may be for real, but I kinda doubt it.

Texas will lose to USC. Va Tech might have a chance. As far as I'm concerned, the rest of the country is playing for cheez whiz and crackers. Maybe UGA, but I doubt. I think USC and ND are gonna dominate college football for a while. Christ....

Maybe I'm just depressed. Maybe everyone's for real.

So you see that sorta AmericanZion movie that's coming, THE WORK OF (AND?) THE GLORY. People runnin' around in frontier clothes shouting, I'm a Mormon! Know what that's about?

I didn't know there was a movie coming out. It's a rather horrid series of books (THE WORK AND THE GLORY) about early Mormon history. Actually, I've only read a few pages of one of them, and just couldn't stomach it. I hear they're good from Mormons who like Oprah's books, which means they are probably horrid.

You really don't think the Canes are for real? Just because they have one loss? They've looked pretty good outside of that. 'course maybe Coker is winning despite himself.

You know, I've been thinking...Both Miami and FSU, I'm sure, have better athletes than USC. They have fantastic athletes. USC has some great ones, but they really aren't as deep. But they play like a team, they trust each other, and trust the coaching. Miami played like that for over a decade. Not no more. They trusted absolutely in each other and the coaches. Tonight I saw two teams that played like that. ND and SC. This is really gonna suck.

Texas is for real, if only by virtue of having Vince Young touch ever snap. This week he went 25 for 29, for 336 yards and five (5!!) touchdowns -- all of this without a run game. Our starter was on the bench. The receivers are stepping up big time, and we still have one of the best TE targets in the nation.

And let's not forget, the defense is so vicious they lead them onto the field in chains. I'm amazed the Colorado QB is still standing.

Not sure how they'd fare against USC, but I certainly hope to find out. I wouldn't bet too much money against them.

And yet Colorado scored 17 points against the defense in chains, 3 against the Miami defense. And, as you state, their run offense is suspect.

I'd bet the farm.

IMO, Va Tech is the only potential threat to the fucking Trojans.

You know, L., Bama's got that same trust thing going on that you describe about USC and ND, and I know that doesn't make you happy either. That team is mostly seniors, several of them fifth year, and they've been through some shit together. That's the thing I meant about the defense the other week...position for position, they may not be the most talented athletes, in fact, Bama has probably had more talented athletes at any given position (Derek Thomas, Cornelius Bennett), but as a unit they are better and it's that trust thing.

Hey, folks --

To elaborate on what Josh said about the Horns....I was at the Texas/Colorado game yesterday.

Colorado did score 17 against Texas' defense, but that last 7 points was long after the defensive starters were out of the game, after Texas' backup offense fumbled on its own 5-yard line in the 4th quarter.

Iin past Mack Brown years, Texas has been a team with athletic prowess, but no real will-to-win when the chips were down, in my opinion. This year, there's a swagger there. This particular team plays together, plays cool under pressure, and seems for the first time like much more than a collection of blue-chippers, and much more than the sum of its parts, which is a lot. I can't put my finger on why that confidence has finally arrived, but it might have something to do with Vince Young being 23-2 as a starter and 7 of those wins being come-from-behind and 5 of those being 4th-quarter comebacks. Don't forget he just went 25-for-29 yesterday for 336 passing (and 384 yards of total individual offense), and 5 TDs, against a defense that everyone was saying would test him greatly. And those numbers are with Vince sitting out the game for most of the 4th quarter.

Even though Texas had its stud running back Jamaal Charles out yesterday with a bad ankle, they still finished yesterday's game ranked 5th in the entire country in rush offense for the season thus far. I'll take our O-line against any D-line -- USC, Notre Dame, Va Tech, Miami, Colorado, anybody.

Last note -- it was interesting to watch the Texas game on the field, but I also had a view of a plasma screen that was in one of the suites way up above me. So I could see the Notre Dame/USC game on TV at the same time and so could all the Longhorns folks in the seats around me. You'd think we'd all be rooting for Notre Dame, but the majority of Texas fans around me were watching that game with mixed emotions because there's a real sense that we think we've got a shot at being in the NC this year, and we want USC to be there as an unbeaten.

The words "be careful what you wish for" probably come to mind, but that's the truth. I think Texas (fans anyway) want to see Texas play USC more than anyone else, if we're fortunate enough to get that far.

USC's awesome, but they're very mortal this year. In past years, I would've bet Josh's farm, Lucius' farm, and my farm on Texas getting its ass handed to it by a juggernaut like USC. But not this year. Not this Texas team. This year's Texas team may somehow have a shot at the greatest of all miracles -- winning it all despite Mack Brown as its coach.

I repeat, Miami held Colo to three, and as for their d, I wasn't impressed. A freshman QB had pretty much his way with them. I just don't believe in the Big 12, John. It's clear many (including myself) overrated Ohio State, and I don't see Texas beating USC. Too many weapons, too much Big Game Experience, and then there's that coaching thing. But I hope they do if they get the chance.

Next week will be the test of the Texas defense. If they can stop Texas Tech from scoring, they can stop just about anybody. Granted, the Longhorns will score at will on the hapless Red Raiders, but the final score (no matter who wins) will be the true tale of Texas' defense. If the LBs get in to take shots at Hodges, it might get ugly for the Red Raiders, but if not, Mack Brown will be a quivering wreck.

Frankly, I'd err on the side of caution. TT could be a landmine.
