Wwll, it's not really a website yet, but thanks to my slavish minion, Bob Kruger, who hates me, there is a weird signpost at the place the website is being constructed that some may find amusing....

So will your website give us lists of everything you've ever worked on, or will you leave the film stuff off? :-) (not due to the quality of your work, but due to the movie-making process...)

Jeez, I don't know, JK. I've been pretty much a Hollywood hooker. I don;t mind talking about the work I've done in an interpersonal situation, but I don't know if I wanta publicize it. I mean, I have worked on some real dogshit... I might make mention of some upcoming stuff if it pans out, howsomever...

Yeah, from your comments on the 'Stephen King is Lars...' I figured there were things were you did some work, but it's not worth mentioning (for all sorts of reasons).

I think you should keep the picture if you can add Miami's colors.

Actually the picture concerns an experience I had on a hobo-convention pilgrimage in Gila Bend, Arizona. My two companions and I had passed the night on the howling waste outside the Tonopah atomic test range. I awoke from troubled dreams of Armageddon to the vision reflected in the picture, and to this benediction:

"Get up, dumbass. Your turn in the bathroom... Uh, floor's a little wet..."

Watch out, all you Scientologists: a new icon is on the rise.

I meant "pilgrimage to Gila Bend," of course. And this is no lie. Michael Bishop has the full details in his keeping, with instructions to publish them on the event of my untimely and inexplicable demise.

Hey, Lucius --

Props on the new web venue. That's quite an evocative photo, man! :-)

That photo of you reminds me of a certain sub-genre of news stories that I find prevalent in a very Catholic town like San Antonio, where I live....the kind where folks swear they see Jesus Christ's face in a flour tortilla a la the Shroud of Turin or they swear that they see the Virgin of Guadalupe in a bowl of menudo or some such thing....and it's some religious event and the TV cameras go out and film it and people make pilgrimages, etc., etc.....crazy!!

Anyway, your photo has that kind of vibe to me...:-)

Young Kruger, you are, doubtless, confusing the moment, for it was not I in the room that night. I was about to enter said room, but on hearing cries of wicked pleasure issuing from within and a gargling outcry entreating a party or parties unknown for the application of a "Vulcan Love Grip," I beat a rerreat to the bar and spent the evening transmuting the elements and preaching the virtues of haute couture to various members of the vegetable kingdom....

I see a sort of triclops Jesus clawing his way out of a heap of regurgitated chile rellenos in a volcano. With such flaccid pixelstroke, I can understand why you would find it a slanderously distasteful image - not to mention the pedestrian color palate, the rectgresso-anal shading modality, the prognathous bourgeois insouciance.

Lucius, my God -- whoops, let me start over -- Lucius, my first look at your new web site made me think that maybe somebody had set up a "Christ Fictions" web address totally unbeknownst to me. And then I realized that Jesus was wearing glasses and the anachronism implicit in this juxtaposition of a messianiac countenance and a pair of contemporary eyewear jolted me back to something quasi-akin to reality. Anyway, I'm impressed. I hope people start sending money to you immediately -- you know, for indulgences, a new fellowship center, better equipment for your cross-country crusades. All RIIIIIIGHT!

Yours,

Bob Kruger was way too generous in citing my small contribution to his effort in constructing Mr. Shepard's website. I'd taken the liberty of updating the fine bibliography that William Contento compiled for the March, 2001 issue of F&SF (as well as cribbing from Jonathan Stahan)...I was just filling in a few blanks. Kudos are due them as well as Bob!

Cheers,

Bruce
