For those interested, the first portion of my novella, "Liar's House," a story concerning the mile-long paralytic dragon Griaule, is up on SCIFI today.

I can't wait to see the next part. It's a bit like when your favorite TV show ends in a cliff hanger. You can't wait till it, but you are somewhat angry at the writer for denying the pleasure for a week.

Whoa. Don't blame me. Well, ok...you can. But we've always felt it better to split novellas up over several weeks initially. This time it's short enough to do as three parts. Stay tuned.

Great start, Lucius.

Are there more Griaule stories in the works?

Martin,

there are several more on the way, but only one will see print before they're all collected together in a sort of chronicle....

I expect there will be another 60,000 words of Griaule material.

And that answers the question I was just about to ask: Will they all be collected together in a sort of chronicle? The Griaule stories are among my favorite of your work; it's unfortunate that most are so hard to get ahold of, and it would be wonderful to see them all collected together in one place.

Mastadge, they will be collected and set within a frame in 2005. Glad you;ve enjoyed them.

Lucius,

Great to hear about the overall gathering - still called, "The Grand Tour"? - it'll be a good reason to (re)read them all. Also great to know about the individual publication of Liar's. Any word on the artwork for the Subterranean edition? Subterranean seems to be doing paper copies of a few of your e-works. Any chance of, "Jailwise", getting the limited edition treatment?

Bill, I think the title will now be changed, but I'm not so sure what it'll be. Probably something like The Chronicle of Griaule.... (blah!) No news about the Sub Press version. They're doing paper copies? I haven't seen any. Are you sure? As to Jailwise, there was some talk, but it fizzled, and now it's part of my story collecton.

Lucius, The Grand Tour sub-title was great (greatest?) but not something that a lot of publishers might be comfortable putting out, at least not form what I've seen. I'll look for it whatever the title. I didn't mean trade paper so much as just printed paper. To bad about Jailwise I think that would give J K Potter another perfect forum to work with you. It'll be in Pete's upcoming collection?

Bill, yeah, it's in Pete's collection and I suspect there'll be an American version -- it'll break into two collections over here.

Gotcha about Sub Press.

And yeah, I have to admit that I feel better about Jailwise than I do about most of my work. I felt I actually came close to achieving what I originally had in mind in that story. Thats not often the case.

Lucius, if I recall correctly, Bill and I agreed that "Liar's House" wouldn't be coming out from Subterranean till mid-year or so because of our exclusivity requirement.

Lucius,

The number of copies that Subter is going to print are gonna sell to the fan base regardless. I remember reading, somewhere, questions about Aztecs and whether it was in any way different from the online version, 'cus, hey, the online version was still available and for free. It sold out virtually on publication anyway. Online it's still available for free. The print copy has probably appreciated. It certainly will.

If the limited of Liar's was to come out a month prior - or even a month post - the generally available collection I'd still be standing in line for a copy. And I'm reading the thing, in parts, as it's released. Second section was great btw. Hate having to wait a week for the conclusion.

What I'm trying to say, in my long winded fashion, is that the book whenever published will be sought after.

And I'm sure that Bill S. will meet contractual obligation - isn't that a Monty Python album?

Cheers, Lucius, Ellen. Thanks to both of you for the stories!

Bill

Hi Lucius,
Sorry --I was in the office this afternoon but I got an email from Bill S and he reminded me that we agreed to at least four months exclusivity before he'll bring out the hc of "Liar's House."

Hi Billc--which one are you? :-)

Ellen,

I've been told I'm one of a kind - and they always say it as if it's a good thing.

I'm just someone who reads, a fan if you will. I read the stories, collect the books and every so often open my mouth. Hopefully I don't insert too many feet.
