This is a beautiful place. Think I'll settle back, get comfy, stay a while.

Did you check out the company? I feel like a monkey among gods...

The company is grand indeed....

But hey, we are all monkeys, and this is a lovely tree for us to perch on and pick demigod fleas off each other! :-)

LOL! In that case I'm the flea.

Cheers, Luís

Now, now. Why settle for being just a flea, when you could be *the* Flea, a superhero, Luís?

By day you are a mild mannered editor at Fantastic Metropolis, but by night you turn into the Divine Flea -- crimefighter extraordinaire.

;-)

Hey, man...

I'm writing this story and I just realized I used your last name for a side character. Michael Chouinard. The guy's a fifty-something talking head on TV, one of those public opiners on this and that. Has no relation to your life, but if it's a problem for you I'll change it. I just liked the way it sounded.

Now, waitaminute! You just described me to a "T"! Must have made a poor impression at WFC this year...

Say, Gabe, I think you mentioned Iain Sinclair in a posting round here somewhere, and I've been eyeing a couple of his novels myself. Where's a good place to start??

Gabe--by the way, I just finished Altered Carbon. I thought it was great. Basically, it was a classic noir novel with a SF setting and technology embedded in it. I think those who have talked about it being rough-edged must be talking about the explicit nature of parts of it. The writing itself is extremely masterful for a first novel.

Still haven't read it. João Barreiros raves about it, and even included it in his Best of 2002 list at FM.

Cheers,
Luís

I thought Altered Carbon was an extremely entertaining read. The prose wasn't as beautiful as it could've been . . . but I guess I'm spoiled from reading books by the people who post hereabouts. Still, it's definitely one of my favorite books I've read this year, and Broken Angels is on its way to me now.

Fortuitous.

Part of the evolving update for this 'issue' will be an interview with Morgan. Woo hoo!

I thought ALTERED CARBON was pretty damn good. I was impressed with the way Morgan extrapolated the effects of the cortical stacks *throughout* society, rather than just touching upon it.

Good stuff.

Are you any relation to Bobby Chouinard?
