Just found out that I'm nominated for the IHG's Best First Novel award. This is neat.

I seize my forum here to trumpet a little.

Congrats. It's a classy little award. Always with a well-chosen list. And SOJ deserves to be in there.

I thought I heard the atonal "blat" of you blowing your own horn, Irvine. Have you no sense of shame, sir?

Neat, indeed.

I blat again! Found out today I won the award, which is very fine. The book wasn't marketed as horror at all, so it's gratifying to know that this audience found it and enjoyed it.

Congratulations! It's one damn fine read, if you ask me. Very, very glad to see your book get the type of attention it has. It looks very nice on my shelf, and will look even nicer when I put more Alex Irvine books next to it.

In the interest of keeping Mr. Irvine's already bloated ego in check, I feel compelled to point out that his book sucked. There. The balance has been maintained.

Young Irvine,

If you win any more of these awards I will just have to smack you upside the head with a pig bladder. I mean it. Stop now.

Okay?

Alex,

I was just gonna say congratulations cause I hadn't heard about the bloated ego thing, but now I'm not sure what to do. How 'bout this:

That was an adequate showing.

:-)

Congrats.

The winners list of the IHG is as strong as that of any award out there.

Well, now, Leslie poses an interesting question. I don't know. Paula Guran is sending me something, but I'm not sure what. Whatever it is, I await it with a large and adequately egomaniacal grin on my face.

Dang, I guess the second book better be pretty good.

Hey, Alex --

I'm writing up a list of recommendations for the 2004 IHG Awards.

Now that you won the IHG for Best First Novel, what book/books do you think are worthy candidates for THIS year's award in that category?

John, this is a tough one. I haven't read as much fiction this year as I would have liked. I'll have to mull it over...
