That Alex has no posts at all.

Alex likes to camp in floodwater. Discuss.

I disavow any knowledge of any flooding I "might" have done.

Does he even know this is here? It's very aloof of him to expect us to run it for him.

I suspect he's busy reading 1000-word Jeffrey Ford sentence-stories for the Journal of Pulse-Pounding Narratives 2!

He's just become a dilettante now that he's won the Crawford.

Figures.

Dilettante? I dunno. I've only met Alex the once, but I suspect he's more likely to be up to his elbows in deadlines, twin girls and day-to-day life. If nothing else, twin girls would have to keep you pretty busy. And that doesn't allow for the work he's gotta be doing for the new novel and the collection. And...when did they announce the Crawford? That must be for A SCATTERING OF JADES. Many many congrats Alex, when you do get here.

Yeah, are we just making a speculative leap that Alex will win the Crawford, or do you know something the rest of us don't? As the editor of A SCATTERING OF JADES (read the copyright page!) I wish only the best for the book. Alex was the one who did all the hard work. It was such a joy to work on. I just moved it through the publishing process. He deserves all the accolades he gets.

I heard it from a very reliable source, who might just be the dilettante in question.

(Wondering if this was a big secret....)

ICFA's next week. I think.

I'm just teasing, I'm sure he's busy as usual. But if he's teased hard enough he's bound to find out this place is here and show up. It's a theory.

Hi. I meant to post here earlier, but, well, you know...

The, ahem, thing is I think not supposed to be general knowledge for another week. But I couldn't keep my big trap shut...

Alex, Gavin's got it up on the little "not a weblog" part of LCRW. You may want to drop him a note.

Klimaster, so yeah, as is usually the case in _my_ life anyway, Gwenda's got insider knowledge, and may, in fact, be up to something.

Well, um, in my own defense, Gavin put it up on the internet before I did.

Eek. Sorry.

So, let's talk about that brilliant "Scattering of Jades." John Klima, is it true that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon did an uncredited rewrite?

Fun times! Congrats on that secret thing that none of us know anything about! (BTW, Damon & Affleck were a bitch to work with so I just went with Kevin Smith for the rewrite)

Pulpy Mother Fucker, yes. Only thing is I hear that Prince song "Sexy Motherfucker" all the time. But hey, he's not doing anything; he can be my theme music, right?

The, um, thing isn't a big deal, I don't think. CNN gave up trying to get through to me after only five minutes. What kind of dedication is that?

Yo! Master Crawford. Did you run into the Anole King out on any balconies? Watch out for that slowly descending claw.

Best,

Jeff

Congratulations on winning the Crawford Award! We barely even watched the Oscars here, because why bother?

Seriously, I hope you didn't toss anything off any balconies...

I did see the Anole King, and his Queen. Thankfully there was no conversation. The whole weekend was swell, although not as swell as it would have been with you guys there.

Sam, can't a guy take a break? And, ahem, what are *you* supposed to be doing?

Yargh. Klima, you wound me.

Mediocre goaltending, a hot goalie on the other side, and too damn many shots hitting the goalposts. Also Steve Yzerman is a shadow of his former self; he needed more games to round into form, and now it looks like he won't get them.

I get to stay up late tonight and watch them try to hack their way back. Gotta believe.

Waaah.

Irvine:

That is not meant to wound. I have no home team (my teams are from WI where I was born, not NJ where I live) so I have the followed the Red Wings for years. It began when Petr Klima was on the team about 12 years ago. I can't believe how good that goalie's playing. He's stopped more shots than anyone else in the playoffs. If Anaheim can make it past Detroit and Giguere can keep up his level of play, the Ducks have a chance for it all.

Having said that, my heart beats red and white. I mean, how can you lose to the ducks?

Jeff--Bill is incommunicado right now, or at least I'm not hearing anything from him. So fret not. I'll drop him another line.

John--Petr Klima, wow. That takes me back. And you lose to the Ducks by having lousy defensive-zone coverage, an anemic forecheck, a one-legged Yzerman, and a goalie who didn't play worth $8 million a year. We just got beat. Oh well. I have a feeling the Wings are going to look different next year.
