Borrowing the title from an old Crass song, as some may recognise, I'm starting this thread for the sake of momentum.

It's noticeable (not here but on TV etc.) that talk of the war has waned and is waning, maybe because we're becoming or have become too used to it, or (more likely) because the media have been instructed to play it down (media / government--same thing).

Why is it that horrible episodes of massacres occuring now on a week to week basis in Iraq are so fleetingly reported on the news or in newspapers? What's going on? And events in Afghanistan are now hitting the fan again (wasn't that meant to have been taken care of by now?).

Soon, there's the G8 gathering in Scotland (G8 gathering!! What the hell is that showbiz spectacle all about?? This woeful ritual seemingly designed to take the piss, or make fun of, all those countries who can't take part!).

But already the temperature is hotting up and the media, by now, are like chickens being stormed by a fox:

Yes indeed. Momentum is underway, and more momentum is required all over.

So this thread is an incitement, simply, to get the show of strength back on the road.

FIGHT WAR, NOT WARS!!!!

The media are running scared. Yes. Here's an "editorial" by the Scotsman newspaper (who basically are an extension of Tony Blair's government, in Scotland) trying to scaremonger. Disgusting.

But do as I, Uncle Bob, say. Get yourself up there. French fishermen will transport you there no problem. The people of Scotland await your arrival with gladness and joy. So here's...

The Scotsman:

"In response to gentle pleas for moderation by even his own exasperated point man in Scotland, Midge Ure, Bob Geldof has not only repeated his irresponsible call for a million people to descend on the capital to protest against the G8 summit. He has now suggested that an armada of small boats bring protesters across the Channel to swell the ranks of the demonstration. In return, the Federation of Small Businesses has called for worried local shopkeepers to shut up shop during the protests. It is unlikely that a Dunkirk-style Armada will pour into the Channel ports, bringing European protesters headed for Gleneagles. More troubling is the fact that Bob Geldof has clearly stopped liaising with the authorities who are trying to ensure the biggest practical turnout that can safely be accommodated in Edinburgh.

Instead, his fantasising has extended to crazy stunts designed purely for media consumption. This is a situation that can soon get out of control - to the detriment of the cause which Mr Geldof is espousing, never mind the risks it carries for peaceful protesters and Edinburgh residents alike. Geldof's ego needs to come back to planet Earth soon, for everyone's sake."

Ooohhh, so melodramatic, almost like a soap opera.

Get yourself to Scotland and put an end to this pish (said in the Scots vernacular).

Enough is enough.

And it's funny how Big Bob G., trying to get as much people to Edinburgh as possible, constitutes such a big threat to public safety, when this is EXACTLY what happens year in, year out with the Edinburgh Festival.

But then, of course, the objectives are.... purely financial.

Then it's OK.

So, anyone in the position to do so, get yourself to Embro (Scots vernacular for Edinburgh).

Now!

We said nothing of the sort. Get yourselves to Embro. We'll have a field day.

Don't worry, we'll be open.

The Scotsman says:

"Instead, his fantasising has extended to crazy stunts designed purely for media consumption. This is a situation that can soon get out of control "

Ah, I see. They're talking about Bush's invasion of Iraq.

It's a war on war
It's a war on war
It's a war on war
It's a war on war
It's a war on war
It's a war on war
It's a war on war
There's a war on

You're gonna lose
You have to lose
You have to learn how to die

Just watching the miles flying by
Just watching the miles flying by
You are not my typewriter
But you could be my demon
moving forward through the flaming doors

You have to lose
You have to learn how to die
if you want to want to be alive, okay?

You have to lose
You have to lose
You have to learn how to die
if you want to want to be alive

You have to die
You have to die
You have to learn how to die
if you want to want to be alive, okay?
