Does anybody know the true origins of the “Thanks Giving" Holiday Myth in America? It was a war time propaganda effort that began during the Civil War by the Lincoln administration to shore up American morale during the war.
This national origin myth incorporated Roast/stuffed turkey... an all American recipe that was taken from the Marine Core cook book. This recipe was NEVER used in colonial American. Ironically enough, this recipe entered the Marine cookbook during the US war with Mexico when the Marines occupied Mexico City for several months, while waiting for someone to sign off on the treaty that gave half of the Mexican territory to the US.
Truth is always stranger then fiction...
Here’s a fluffy link that cites the Lincoln as the originator of the national holiday. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A28419-2003Nov11.html
Enjoy your turkey everyone. I would like to thank Mexico, for giving us most of our country, and this wonderful Roast Turkey recipe.
