I'd like to announce that Bantam Dell have bought US publication rights to The Etched City. The sale was made to editor Juliet Ulman, who noticed the book from the excerpt on the Fantastic Metropolis site - thanks Luis, Mike and all at FM! Particular thanks also to Jeff VanderMeer and Jeff Ford for the generous help they've given me.

Awesome! Now there are at least two more editions of the book for me to collect (the UK and eventually the UK!)!

Congratulations.

Will there be anything special in the UK and Bantam Dell editons? Like those extra stories added to the different versions of City of Saints & Madmen? Or will the different editions be the same?

Many congratulations, Kirsten! And thank *you* for letting us use that great excerpt -- you'd be noticed sooner or later anyway, I'm sure of that.

Best of luck for the new editions, I'm already hoping you get nominated (at least) for next year's World Fantasy Award!

Cheers,
Luís

Cheryl, Nicholas, Jay, John, Robert, Luis - thanks!!

Cheryl - no publication date as yet. Next year some time is all I know so far.

Robert - nothing extra, though the US edition might be a little different. The editor has mentioned that she has a couple of suggestions for revision, so if I think they're improvements I'll take this chance to revise the book. (And there are a couple of small grammatical things I definitely want to fix.)

I do have a short story set after the events in the novel, but nothing else. I think I'd need more material to consider an expanded edition. Not that I don't have wishful visions of an illustrated version coming out one day...

Forrest - thanks!
It seems to have been a good year for quite a few people on these message boards. Wonder if the planet of success is in conjunction with the planet of strangeness, or something...

Thanks, Mastadge and Martin (Martin, what are you doing in this world?)

Mastadge - It'll be a paperback - mass market paperback. No hardback for the US, though the UK one might be.

Congrats, KJ! You'll like working with Juliet - she's a sweetheart.

So you and I now have a matched set of publishers. Cool!

Also Roz Kaveney was telling me on Monday how impressed she was with EC. Quite right too.

Thanks, Liz and Ben!

Liz - Juliet Ulman has been in touch. She is a darling. And it turns out we've both got a thing for Tare Panda and Mashi Maro...

Hey, thanks, Vera!
It's a coincidence you dropped by here. I've just taken COMPASS ROSE off layby, and brought it home a couple of days ago. It looks gorgeous. I'll be reading it soon!

Hello KJ,

Have you had any word about any sort of projected release date for the Bantam Dell edition yet? Thanks!
