I just posted this to the ElectricStory main page:
Left Behind or Retrieved?
Over a year ago, we ran a review by Lucius Shepard that juxtaposed The Harry Potter and Left Behind series. Today, Slate ran an article in a similar vein. While Lucius focused more on the Left Behind movies and their function as propaganda, he did note similarities between the way they addressed and found their audience, which is the thrust of the Slate article. We've written the author to see if he took Lucius' essay as a launching point. Even if he did not, the two articles make an interesting package when read together...

Steven Waldman, CEO of Beliefnet and author of the Slate piece, wrote me and said that he hadn't read Lucius' review but would check it out. Meanwhile, locusmag.com was updated today with this in its "blinks" list: "Was Slate's Harry Potter/Left Behind article prefigured by Lucius Shepard's 1/03 Left Behind review?"
