*bump*

Funny that experimental for you (knowing the names of contributors) will be what most other editors do. Looks like this could lead to some interesting stories.

Indeed, Daniel. Like Perfidious Perfidious SF (see previous post but one above which should be interesting to all Cone Zeroists), I think it is a genuine point: can an experiment reverting to standard practice *be* an experiment? It seems like an experiment to me.

This is what I've added as an appendix to the guidelines:

A few Nemonymous purists have taken me to task for item 4. above.
But please let me say that reading submissions from outset in the same way as any other editor does is a serious experiment for *me* to undertake, of course! :-)

The original purpose of Nemonymous was merely to present stories in print without the by-line embedded in the body of the thing (story) itself, much like a composer or architect etc. etc And that continues.

Nemo 9 will no doubt have a different experiment to undertake...!

Yeah, I admit that it surprised me to see that change--one of the things that first jumped out at me when I heard about Nemonymous (from an ad in Leviathan 3, I think) was the anonymity of the submission process. That appeals to the unknown writers. But the act of reading the stories without any preconceptions based on the names is a great draw as well. The willingness to constantly try new things is a great asset in this field (and any field, really).

The original purpose of 'Nemonymous' was to print stories without the by-line embedded. The anonymity of the *submission* process - in the history of 'Nemonymous' - was very much a secondary suggestion (by someone else) which I took up as an experiment. I still very much believe in the 'philosophy' underlying this method and am pleased that I used it previously and may well use it again.

Has anyone else yet read the guidelines here:

And if so, what do you think? Has anyone been put off from submitting by anything there? Or do you intend to submit? Or whatever?
I'd be grateful for replies, even if negative ones.

BTW, As to 'Cone Zero' being an anagram: it is indeed an anagram of the full book title of 'Zencore!' whereby the '!' is symbolic of another symbol harder to reproduce (certainly in this posting format) - and that symbol is of the male gender and of Mars in Astrology shown here:
www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/42/4228.html

This fits in with the other 'meaning' of Zencore as a herbal viagra which googling makes apparent! Hence the original '!' on the Zencore! book itself.

PS: I once wrote a novella entitled Viagra Aska. ;-)

CONE ZERO at least vaguely looking for some of its stories to be laced or tinged with traditional SF. That does not change any previous guidelines and the freedom of themes and styles available to submitters.

Here is Cat in a Cone: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mkengstrom/81240910

But did they put Schrödinger's cat in a cone, I wonder?

The massive Schwinger model is quantized on the light cone with great care on the bosonic zero modes by putting the system in a finite (light-cone) spatial box. The zero mode of A- survives Dirac's procedure for the constrained system as a dynamical degree of freedom. After regularization and quantization, we show that the physical space condition is consistently imposed and relates the fermion Fock states to the zero mode of the gauge field. The vacuum is obtained by solving a Schrödinger equation in a periodic potential, so that the theta is understood as the Bloch momentum. We also construct a one-meson state in the fermion-antifermion sector and obtained the Schrödinger equation for it.

'Tanstagi', an acronym standing for 'There Ain't No Such Thing As Government Interference', is the motto of the Invisible Hand Society, an originally fictional organization invented in the Schrödinger's Cat trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson. This trilogy was a sort of sequel to the Illuminatus! trilogy (another book title incorporating a ! like Zencore!). I read both these trilogies many years ago. Now they're coming back to haunt me.

The Cone Zero guidelines have been simplified, fine-tuned but basically unchanged:

I understand that Zencore! has been recommended for a Stoker award under the anthology section, and at least one of its stories in the short story category.

No, you are being admired, at least by me.
I have been interested in these forces apparently working against each other:-

(1) Submitting to Cone Zero anonymously ... even though this time, with Nemonymous, you could have submitted non-anonymously, as you now have with your comments on this thread.

(2) You 'bumped' this thread when your submission was still anonymous, thus cancelling out any potential or theoretical benefit from the 2nd post on this thread.

(3) At some Zeroistic intersection of (1) and (2), you have effectively alerted more writers to the guidelines by bumping this thread, writers who *may* now submit stories, one of which submissions *may* exclude yours from being on the short list.

I thank you. Fascinating psychological dilemmas still playing out their subtle repercussions....

I got a couple of pages into a story I was writing with CONE ZERO in mind (story was only going to be 500-1000 words anyway), but after much messing around with the computer, I couldn't find a way to send a Word Document with the tools I have access to, Consequently, I never finished the story. Not to worry, though. I don't think it was very good anyway.

Well, as a chance near-anagram of ZENCORE (which was in turn a chance title for Nemonymous Seven), the book that will be CONE ZERO (Nemonymoous Eight) is taking shape. This is going to be a mighty difficult task. As it is, the CONE ZERO stories already rejected so as to leave the short list were (are) mostly impressive gems of the CONE ZERO ethos or genre. Meanwhile, the 47-strong short list (on subsequent readings) are indeed found to be all masterpieces of the CONE ZERO ethos or genre. I have enough for several books? What to do!!

Vested interest aside, I'm tempted to suggest you publish all of them; an anthology of 47 all-original stories would be mighty tempting...But I guess that isn't a realistic proposition.

You've published seven volumes so, so the obvious piece of advice springs to mind - go with your instincts. They must be pretty well honed by now!
