Here's the shortlists for the 2005 Aurealis Awards courtesy of the Awards Director Lea Greenaway.

The Aurealis Awards are proud to announce the 2005 finalists and honourable mentions in the Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Young Adult and Children's novel and short story divisions (see attachment, and the listing at the end of this email).

We would like to congratulate the finalists and thank all the authors who have submitted work, their editors, and the publishing industry who have supported them. This year has seen a strong submission field with over 100 novels and almost 300 short stories.

We hope you can join us in Brisbane for the 2005 Aurealis Awards Ceremony on Saturday 25 February 2006 at the Queensland Conservatorium, South Bank. Afterwards come and meet many of Australia's best speculative fiction authors at the Cocktail Party at Cafe San Marco where we will celebrate the 10th Birthday of the Awards and of Pulp Fiction Bookshop. (Enquires: director@aurealisawards.com Tickets: $20 from Pulp Fiction 07 3236 2750)

The 2005 Aurealis Awards have been hosted by Fantastic Queensland in cooperation with Chimaera Press and proudly supported by the Brisbane City Council. Our thanks also to Pulp Fiction for supporting the Cocktail Party and joining us in celebrating speculative fiction literature in Australia.

Seasons' Greetings to all!

Lea

Lyn and I will both be there to see Lyn accept her award for the SF section and watch somebody else win the Horror section :-)

Looking forward to catching up with everyone we haven't seen since last year at our favourite city in the world. And this time: NO KIDS. Where's that bar....?

No kids, no worries! I have three that you and Lyn can borrow while you are in Brisbane. In fact you'd be more than welcome to spend the Awards evening at my house entertaining the kids. I'll ring you on the mobile every half-hour to give you an update on who won what:-)

Ah, c'mon, Lee. These are the kids that were kept spellbound by Zoran Zivkovic's card tricks. Yeah, I know the guy's a magician, but you used to be a stand-up comic. Surely it's a challenge you must accept. I mean you went to the AAs last year, do you really need to go again? :-)

There's a tap behind that bar with my name on it....

Actually, I think your kids are a delight. If I had my kids with me, I'd take them all out for the day. But as I'm sans kids this time, the drinking comes first :-)

Let's all agree that's mineral water on the house. On the other hand Stella might be good.

Oh Cat, no need to show us you have balls. We already know that :-)

Which reminds me: must check with AA people that the bar will serve real beer instead of this pissy lager they think is beer down here...
