It would have been really cute if the keyboard had actually spelt out "Afterword". The weird thing is that the qwerty typewriter looks like it is struggling to do that.

Nice quote by China too. I assume the pun is intentional.

Cool cover, but this typewriter needs to be entered in "Disgusting Things International" competition.

Nothing wrong with fungus. Or squid, for that matter. Now, mixing them together is wrong, and this typewriter has bits of both.

Wow. I could have had the photograph of a squid plopped onto the keyboard.

Wow. You just gave me a great idea for the limited edition!!!!

that link leads nowhere. you tease with old typewriters filled with fungus or squid. i could sit in the backyard with the fungus one and go all druidic and writer nature loving stories...

I sometimes think about making a computer keyboard like that - old typewriter style. I'm not sure if I'd cover it with mushrooms, but I could always use them as snacks while sitting at the computer.

Honestly, though, I think the dust jacket for the limited is going to be the same photo but with a squid curled all around the keys.
LOL!

Jeff - the hi-res image makes that typewriter look so real. It makes me want to pound it! Excellent cover.

Limited? Is this a reality or something you're working on? When does the Tor US edition drop?

It's something I'll work on once the Tor edition is out. I'll have an official announcement soon, but the limited will be everything but the book. Tor doesn't want a limited hardcover in competition with its edition, so it'll be an alternate dustjacket, bookplate, tons of "artifacts", a very cool lacquered box for it all, some Ambergris booze, etc. And then you just take your Tor trade edition and reclothe it in the new dustjacket and put it in its appointed place in the box.

This will be a very high-end item with silver and gold jewelry based on stuff in Shriek and may come in around $300-$400 for the lettered edition.

More on that soon.

I can't wait to find an excuse to reward myself with reading it. At least in time for Wiscon so Hal and I can chat about its merits and rail about its extremely minute faults.

I don't want to comment too much until I know how different the proof I read is from the final product, but the proof was great. It also made me want to re-read CoS&M again, so I could see how the knowledge of the various characters affected the Early History of Ambergris.

The original agent proof is a lot different. The finalized version is 30k longer with extensive edits to another 20k.

Al--really glad you liked it!
