I'm happy to announce that there will be a special VanderMeer issue of Weird Tales in 2005. It will feature:

- a brand new piece of VanderFiction (probably a novella)

- two or three fiction reprints

- an interview with moi

and, what's truly exciting to me

- cover art by John Picacio

- an interview with John Picacio (conducted by moi)

Sounds like a good issue. I've always wanted to try Weird Tales, but it seems I've never seen the mag in any bookstore. How would you go about obtaining a copy without subscribing?

Congrats, Jeff. Very cool.
More Picacio art is always -- Always, I say -- a good and proper thing.

Stephen:

Actually, I see it in Borders and Barnes & Noble all the time.

But I also know that next year, WT will be giving a big push to distribution and that it will be more widely available, starting with the issue I'll be featured in.

Thanks, guys, for the congrats. I'm not yet sure what the new piece will be, but there is a dark fantasy South America-based novella I've been working on that might fit the bill.

Thanks Jeff. I'll keep my eyes open, and hopefully WT will start distributing more. I havn't checked our big SpecFic specialty store so maybe....

Jeff will also have a special Playboy issue in the near future, complete with nude photos of the author.

No, Jeff will not. LOL.

WT is going to do a big push next year. They're also going to have a web site up soon.

The website should be up in a week or so, with ordering options. But, if you can't wait, the latest issue, 335, is available, for $5.95 + $1.00 s/h. Fiction and poems by Ian Watson, Richard Middleton, Jane Rice, George Barr, Tanith Lee, Michael Bishop and more. Cover by Rowena Morrell.

A special Playboy issue? Oh yeah, bring it on. Let's see those pecs.

As John Picacio posted to his message board:

Quick update regarding my participation in the Jeff Vandermeer/WEIRD TALES special issue:

I deeply regret that I won’t be able to do the cover for the 2005 WEIRD TALES special issue featuring Jeff. He's a class act and an astoundingly gifted author and I was very much looking forward to this opportunity to collaborate with him. It didn't work out this time, but I look forward to working with Jeff in the future and I wish much success for this special issue.

And my reply.

No worries, John! I totally understand your reasons and we *definitely* will work together in the future. You're a class act.

JeffV
