Right, I'm getting ready for my trip to the UK in support of City of Saints and wanted to post my itinerary, which the Alien Online has kindly done a news item on:

http://www.thealienonline.net/ao_030.asp?tid=1&scid=11&iid=2264

As they say--

• April 9-11, 2004 - EasterCon in Blackpool, England. Jeff will be doing three panels, a short reading, and his multi-media "Rough Guide to Ambergris" presentation.

• April 12, 6:30pm, Borders, London. Jeff will be doing will be doing a reading, Q&A, and signing as part of Pat Cadigan's long-running series, along with Jeffrey Ford.

• April 14, 2pm, Forbidden Planet, London. Jeff will be doing a reading and a signing, along with Jeffrey Ford.

• April 17, 2pm, Ottakars Bookstore, Coventry - Jeff will be speaking about American SF/F and then about City of Saints, followed by a short reading and then a signing. The event may take place in the city library, which is adjacent to the bookstore.

I hope to see some of you at these events! It should be fun. I'll have some extra goodies available at some of the events--Ambergris stickers, perhaps some t-shirts.

Dr VanderMeer: You will be seeing Dr "Boots" Hartley, Dr "Head-butt" Williamson and myself at as many of these events as our fragile stamina will permit.

Ooh, I loved Forbidden Planet! I used to wander around morosely contemplating if I would ever find love while looking at the things I was not able to afford. Tell them that big weepy guy says hello.

I've been trying to reply to your email but the server is in a huff and won't let me.

However - mais non, le petit, il existe! Il n'est pas un homme imaginaire!! And hopefully he's coming to Blackpool.

PS: the clan Counihan and I are going to Uzbekistan in May. Shall we take Alien Baby with us? In which case I will bring him to Eastercon so that you can be tearfully reunited, and then snatch him back again. Just let me know.

That would be wonderful, Liz. That alien baby loves to travel.

If you do bring him to EasterCon, that'd be great, so I can get a few shots of him in Blackpool.

Get a shot of him in front of the Blackpool tower, a hideous metal monstrosity that bestrides the landscape like some ghastly colossus.

I've started to dream about it. No kidding. And not in a good way. The sweating, waking-up-suddenly kind of dream.

I should add that Mark Roberts and Eric Schaller, who did a lot of the illos in City of Saints will be on hand for most events to sign City of Saints as well.

Hi, Liz...

I just finished a novelette about the hideous monstrosity called The Blackpool Ascensions, Probably compensating for the fact that I can't get over for Eastercon. Actually, while writing about the monstrosity, I kind of grew to like it. :-)

Well, *that's* something I'll have to read. Will seeing the real Blackpool ruin the Shepardian Blackpool?

I'm sure the two are quite dissimilar. It's been so long since I was in BP, I hardly recall it -- but I do recall the tower, both from experience and the wonderful movie, Funny Bones, with Lee Evans and Oliver Platt. The tower is a trip. It has a buidling bulit around its base to protect it from winds and in the building are an aquarium and hideous Victorian ballroom and etc. In any case, I didn't deal with the town itself, just with the tower and the beach....

Jeff - Confused? I should say so. I wasn't at the PanMac building. Don't think it was me you were meant to meet there.

ps You do look like you're going to pull a Shoggoth from a hat or something in the pic.

Which 'neil' is that? 'Neil Ayres' posted the 'Neil A' post. I guess 'Neal Asher' might also have been expected at the TorUK party. 'N. Stanifer' is spelt with a Ne'a'l I think, so who's the mystery lower case neil?

I'll post my full name in future on these boards, wouldn't want anyone thinking I'm a freaky stalker or mysterious textual doppelganger.

Oops. Sorry, Neil. I didn't read all of the posts on this board. I saw Jeff at various times when he was over, and arrogantly assumed he was talking to me there because I missed the continuity of your post. There is of course plenty of Jeff to go around all of the Ne(i/a)ls.

I'm happy to be thought of as a freaky stalker or mysterious textual doppelganger however.

mystery lower case neil williamson

sigh I suppose we'll make do.

Liz, if I had revealed myself... oh, I see what you mean... yes, your Nemesis. Or at least the Nemesis of the frustratingly evil Dr Cryptic... The Gabbler

NeilA - Hello too. Glad we got that sorted out.

Jeff - Does this mean I can press the GO button on the cloning machine??? Please...?

All the more reason to use a more auctorial image, one that's authoritative. Though never underestimate the power of the ol' yankin the rug out from under the reader trick: the image of a sweet, innocent 12-year-old, then they start reading this weird, evocative shit that sure didn't come from no 12-year-old.
