Is there anybody out there who does this and would be happy to talk about it? I need some background for Under Angels' Eyes, and the water's too bloody cold around here to warrant doing the research first hand....

All input gratefully received

Go hang out in Santa Cruz for a week or two, man. Research trip, like, you know...

Thanks Cheryl - REAL tempting, but logistically impossible right now. Oh well, just have to make it all up, I suppose....

I would love to have been more constructive, but fans just aren't the surfing type, you know.

Hmm, I wonder if Rick Kleffel might know. He lives in Santa Cruz.

Failing that, I'm flying back to the UK on Wednesday. I'll bottle up some California sunshine for you. I'm sure it will be inspirational.

Jay, that's great. Thanks a lot. The fact you did it years ago is totally cool, because it'll give what you tell me a flavour current surfing may not have, which in turn is very useful when trying to create that 'ole familiar-but-not SF thing. I've got a raft of questions as starting points and I'd like you just to ramble from there as much as you've got time for - will get the list together and e-mail you asap.

Cheryl, thanks - my very own bottle of pre-Arnie-conterminated California sunshine - should be a collectable rarity very soon, I fear.

Have you ever been to Aber in winter time??
I get cold just THINKING about going in the water!

and the seaweed is damn vicious- it followed me up the hill yesterday!

But- every other week I've seen some (fool hardy?) young surfy type wandering around in a wet suit...

I can't even see how it would be any good for them! The sea always looks so flat...
