I've known since before Christmas, but Granada have finally taken the embargo off the news that Patrick Stewart will be playing the lead in my new show.

And shooting on the first episode starts in a couple of weeks! There's a bit more detail on the website.

click here and go to the news page.

The word is that two producers have been fired along the way. Any comment?

Oh, I dunno . . . I suppose the fact Patrick Stewart's involved means it is going to appear at some time? As I understand it, once the telly folk have got a star name to carry something they're normally pretty happy.

Uh, you're not a producer on this, are you, Stephen?

And while I'm here: is the Telos edition of VALLEY OF LIGHTS actually out? I've seen no mention of it on your website, yet Amazon UK have been under the impression it's been out a month or two. Or they had been last time I checked.

Any difference between the paperback version and hardcover -- apart from the binding, obviously?

VALLEY is out as far as I'm aware... there's more info on the Telos website here. Click on 'original and classic fiction' and follow the link to the title.

Content-wise the two versions are the same.

Congratulations on the series, Stephen. Enjoyable stuff, though I have to say I'm not entirely sure about Mr Stewart in that role. What do you think?

I've got to say he's great, don't I? Although a part of me will always hanker for the role as originally written, a bit of a scruff with a day-old sandwich in his coat pocket, getting the creases out of his shirts in Novotel trouser presses.

Stephen,

I read 'Life Line' from your short story collection last night.

I think its the best short story I've read recently.

Cheers,

gcw
