We received this query---does anyone recognize the story?

I've searched all over, can't remember the name. I read it in the mid 70's so could have been written any time before that. The story had to do with an average joe type single guy who somewhere in his room finds a tiny house, and starts seeing activity around the house, like little tiny milk deliveries, and gardening etc. The guys luck starts to improve, things start going his way, like finding a girlfriend. But he's curious about the little beings, and starts poking around their little house, going so far as to write on thier door with a pencil - finally they get annoyed and disappear leaving their tiny house empty. Then the guys luck turns really bad. And it goes on a bit from there.

This has been driving me crazy for 20 years, cant remember the name or the author. Just remember that I read it in a short story collection.

On another list, this story was quickly identified as Henry Kuttner's "Housing Problem" (1944).
