Yes, I am here. Is Dallas doing good? It doesn't matter. They won't be doing good ere long, whether tonight or manana, and there will be silence in Speegleland...Let's just take a peek. Ooh. A three point lead. :-)

If the Mavs continue to settle for outside shots instead of driving to the basket -- as EVERYONE but them seems to understand -- it's over.

1 point Heat lead at the half might as well be 11 points. We've had ooh and ah fan moments, but they're just that. It ain't lookin' good from this side of the court. All the positives are negated by the lack of coverage on Wade, the impatience around our goal, the seeming dismay that we're not god's basketball birthlings.

Posted on Thursday, June 22, 2006 - 09:31 am:

Well, he didn't do a great job, but we're never going to do well in the world cup until out strikers get better, We don't have one-name guys playing striker. Our strikers just don't have world class skill. We don't have single player who offers something special. Our no 10 was Arena, who gave away the game today. We don't have a midfielder like Beckham who strikes crosses with astonishing accuracy. We need a couple of superstars. That said, Arena obviously didn't have the team ready to play against the Czechs, so yeah I think he should go, but that's not the real problem.

No, the Italians have turned whining and bad sportsmanship into an art form. (Since I don't take soccer that seriously, I get kind of a laugh out of it sometimes.) I mean, RAI suing FIFA to get its broadcast rights money back after Italy was eliminated in 2002? Brilliantly assholish!

Hey, Lucius, in the words of Shannon Sharpe, don't hate, congratulate! The Italians even came out of their catenacchio long enough against the Choke Republic to score a second goal. Bellissimo!!!!!

I get a laugh from the acting sometimes, like in a Seagal movie ( :-) ) but it gets old fast. I like soccer. I admit to being a casual fan, but that's cause it's hardly ever on TV. I like it better than the pro basketball regular season.

Once we start using our magic Italian foul-call-getting writhing on the ground against the Brazilians, those red cards will be flying, believe dat! Nothing will stand in the way of our glorious Mediterranean cheating!

Lucius, I think you should develop a story around that: a futuristic sport in which the only rule is to get as many fouls called on the other team as possible until all their players are disqualified. The society's biggest superstars will be the weakest, frailest players with bird-like bones, eggshell skulls and onion-paper skin. Like Rollerball in reverse.

And I'm talkin' 'bout the Slim Pickens riding the bomb sort of preverted. You're talkin' 'bout the sort of preverting they do in cafe before they set a glass of wormwood in front of you and you enter the verte brume!

1) Keukenhof is a large botanical gardens, specializing of course in tulips. (No jokes, here, hombre; I'm the lone male in a house of females.:-))

2) Remember how horribly Bay of Pigs failed? Okay, that was the best I could come up with. Truth be, I feel silly touting my powder boys.

1 -- I'm sure it was lovely, but where do the preverted window displays come in?

2 -- I was thinking more of the Children's Crusade.

3 -- I see.

The preverted window displays belong of course to the Red Light District, where, if you're not interested in selecting one of the young ladies for yourself, you can choose among such stage offerings as, say, a one-legged woman doing it with a no-legged woman. Not that I've attended any of these, mind you.

Great goal by Portugal.

As well as ND passes the ball, they should have an excellent shot at tying it now.

The ref absolutely lost it. Given FIFA's reaction in the past, he'll probably get a medal.

For real. And he potentially fucked the quarterfinals for Portugal. Decko should have kept his cool, yes, but Christ.

Yeah, Decko's loss could be crucial. But the way England's playing, Portugal should one.

I think Italy tomorrow, fairly easily. Then Ukraine in a close one.

What I'm really looking forward to are Tuesday's matches. As things stand now I see either Ger or Arg making it out of their bracket to the finals, and then Brazil or Spain out of there's. I don't think the other two brackets stand a chance.

Yep, I agree. Though I'm really going to be pulling for Australia...and England. I have a feeling they just may get past Portugal, undeservedly...

Okay, okay, considering it is after all the Finals thread...

You understand, it wasn't the fact ABC was rehashing it so much as the *way* they rehashed it. The nostalgia, the tears.

I'm in World Cup mode now and so should all Heat fans be!

It's so hard to make such a transition, especially with weather so HEATed. I'm doing the best I can.

The nostalgia, the tears....the ass-kicking. :-)

Did you see that stat? 4 of 5 goals scored in the 80th minute or later for Australia. But you could be right about it going to penalty kicks. I'd like to see that in one of these matches -- not necessarily this one.

Rooting for Switzerland. Hopefully they can keep that streak of allowing no goals alive.

Italy, and particularly Totti, the recipient's of the world's slowest makeup call. It took four years for Sepp Blatter to make up for the b.s. call against S. Korea that knocked the Italians out of the mix. Pity that the plucky Aussies had to be served the plate of injustice this time around.

Can't say that the penalty wasn't a justified call. It wasn't flagrant b.s. like the "diving" red card in '02. Shame on the Aussies for playing a man up for :45 and not scoring.

Sure it was. The Italian guy didn't dive? It looked to me that he had gotten past the guy and could possibly have scored, but why do that when one can dive....
