Here's the cover to the Night Shade edition of Trujillo (which is just the novel, not the whole PS collection).

Great cover. I gather that's an actual shot of Trujillo?

Here's one reaction from a friend who wishes to remain anonymous:

"That's a beautiful cover, but it doesn't really
convey the idea 'this is one scary-ass book about the
darkness in the human heart' does it?"

Our primary concern was less on "darkness in the human heart" and more on "buy me, I'm pretty and I look very friendly".

And "Don't worry, if you put me on your shelf, I promise I won't rip the still-beating heart out of your other books..."

You know, it says all that and more.

Well, after reading 'Trujillo' [Their tourist motto: Come for the sun, stay for eternity] and the other four novelettes associated with it, I think I'd rather vacation somewhere safe like Arkham, Mass. :0)

Lucius, any plans to revisit Trujillo in a fiction frame of reference?

It's a beautiful image, all right. My wife thinks the most important job of any book's cover is to compel a bookstore browser to pick the book up, look at the description on the back cover, and perhaps crack the book open to read the first few paragraphs. I think she's on target, especially given today's publishing climate and the huge glut of product being pushed out the doors of the publishing houses. I feel this cover accomplishes its goal, as stated above, very nicely. It should appeal strongly to all those Lonely Planet Guide readers and armchair travelers out there.

Looks like a tourism brochure. Still, it's an attractive cover...

Probably go over better than a dripping black heart.:-)

Sounds like an idea for your website...

Things that could have been...the dripping black heart!

Lucius: I read on Locus today that you are creating a video to accompany the special editon of Trujillo. True? If so, could you say what it's all about and if there's a tentative release date? Thanks a lot.

I think I've seen that cover on a National Geographic show a while back. That was a good show if I remember correctly: vampire bats, anacondas, and these nasty beatle-like bugs that sucks your blood while you sleep and in doing so, give you a fatal and incurable disease of the heart. From the show, it looked like a nice place to visit but I would sure hate to live there.
