Announcing TEL : Stories
Did you ever read a story and say to yourself, "Oh my God, someone can do that with the language?" TEL : Stories is a new 'zine dedicated to the idea that there is no such thing as stylistic excess. I'm interested in fiction that is ornamented, baroque, rococo -- wherever your highest flights of fancy can take your pen, we'd like to follow. I'll be featuring a reprint of Greer Gilman's "Jack Daw's Pack," as well as new fiction from Forrest Aguirre, if you want a good idea of what I'll be looking for.
I'll be paying $15 plus three contributor's copies per story for original fiction. New fiction only, please, though due the nominal pay rate I will be flexible about prior or simultaneous appearances in full-rate markets. (This means no reprints but feel free to sell the first rights elsewhere.) Please submit in standard manuscript format via lettermail. Overseas contributors may submit via email. Publication is expected in the late fall of 2004.
Submissions will be accepted from April 1st to May 15th, 2004 at:

Well, Jay, good luck with the new venture! So, no word limits?

Nope, no word limits. I could be equally delighted by pieces of 100 words and 20,000 words.
Somewhat more seriously, I think the stylistic requirements of the project are somewhat self-limiting in terms of length, but I'd loved to be proven wrong.
Besides, for a measly $15 I figured I'd better give everybody their artistic freedom.

That's an intelligent attitude!

Thanks, Lou. I'm stupid far too often as it is, nice to be smart once in while. ;-)
