Lucius,
Enjoyed A Walk in the Garden. Sorry I don't have anything insightful or intelligent to say about it, guess that's why I got a C in Kessel's class. Just to keep you up on the local slang, we call the Iraqi's "Haji". It can be used as a adjective, "Let's go down to the Haji store. Or as a noun, "Hey look, that fcking Haji is shooting an RPG at us, light his ass up!"

Lucius,
Hope it didn't come across as correcting you, but I thought you'd be interested it. I'm not sure of the origin, but Haji seems to be a fairly common name. And wasn't Johnny Quests sidekick named Haji?
Yea, a C was probably being generous, but he knew how hard I was trying. And even though it didn't help my GPA, it was one of my most memorable and interesting classes. I don't mean to imply I've been "in the shit" as they say, no one has shot at me yet. I'm in the rear with tha gear.

It would be nice if you could get me some of that "IQ" stuff. There's a few dumbasses at Headquarters that could use a big snort of it!
On a more serious note, I don't know if you were ever in the military, but you capture that Soldier mood and mentality very well. This story and of course R&R come to mind.

Hi, Pender...naw, I didn't take it as improper correction, I took as it good correction. It'll be nice if I can put the word in...

In the rear with the gear is the best place. You know that. I could use a little IQ myself.....Dumbasses at HQ is the Army way, huh. It never changes.

Never was in the service, but I've been around the military a good bit in various situations. Some fun. :-)

Hello Pender,

I believe Haji refers to any Muslim who has made the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Stay well.

And, doing a search of "Johnny Quest" on Google, I found that indeed Haji was his sidekick. That could be the origin too.

Haji not only refers to someone whose made the Mecca pilgrimmage, it's commonly used as an honorific. I remember Malcom X was often addressed as Haji toward the end of his life.

It's the same thing - Malcolm went to Mecca, as you recall. After that, you have the right to put Haj' in your name.

Yup. That was my point. There's an American equivalent--make a pilgrimmage to Bramson, Missouri and you're entited to be called, Bubba... :-)
